Helen wakes up with the worst hangover ever on
New Years Day. The electricity isn't working and
chaos has taken over outside. What the heck is
going on? Where is everyone? And why is her
roommate's room filled with blood?

Ever since Saw 2, I've had no respect for Darren
Lynn Bousman. This man hasn't got a single
creative bone in his body and New Year's Day
is another example of that. It's yet another
mediocre 28 Days Later rip-off where some random
girl wakes up with a bad hangover on New Years
Day, only to realize that the world has been
overrun by flesh-eating zombies. How original.
What's even worse is that he seems to be so stuck
in the Saw franchise that we're provided with the
lousiest twist ending ever here. Not EVERYTHING
needs to have a twist ending!

I was actually on the verge of not reviewing this
weeks episode since I'm so fed up with this show
and it's almost impossible to find new things
to say about these dull and generic episodes.
Like usual, the acting is bad, the directing is
mediocre, the story-line is plain and dull and
the pacing is surprisingly slow even though these
are only 45 min episodes. I think that a good
idea would be to do another horror show with
the same concept only each episode would be made
in a different country and language. How much
fun wouldn't that be? Mick Garris, I hope you're
reading this and taking it into consideration.

Anyway back to this weeks episode. New Year's
Day isn't the worst episode to date and it has
some decent moments but the unoriginality of it
and the pathetic ending ruined what could have
been a moderately entertaining horror flick.
Another episode certainly not worth checking out,
I wonder if they'll release these movies on DVD.
If they do, I hope to god that no one buys them
because that would mean almost 12 hours of pure
boredom. Man this show is awful.

Not a lot, some minor gore.

Nothing worth commenting on.

28 Weeks Later meets Saw... but in a really bad
and incompetent way. Certainly not something you
will want to sit through, despite the short
running time. Let's just hope that next weeks
episode is bearable (that's all I can ask from
this show at this point).
