Ellen is
suffering from bad nightmares and is positive
that the demonic man in her dreams is real. Her
husband is admitting her to a mental institution
but on the way there, their car breaks down and
Ellen is left on her own while her husband goes to
find help. It doesn't take long before the nightmare
man shows up and hunts her through the woods. She
manages to find a cabin where four friends are having
a weekend get-away and they have no idea what's
coming their way.

Rolfe Kanefsky has managed to impress me with his
previous horror films, Corpses and The Hazing, so
I knew right from the start that I was going to
enjoy his latest horror feature. Nightmare Man is
basically a teen-slasher flick with a masked killer
terrorizing a couple of friends who are stuck inside
a cabin in the woods. Now, this to me was a great
concept as I've missed quality masked slasher flicks,
but unfortunately, it wasn't all good.
For some reason, Rolfe must've thought that it would
be a good idea to throw some real demons into the mix.
Unfortunately, it just seemed odd. Sure, demonic
slasher flicks can be great but this one had a
masked killer as well as a demon, they weren't one
and the same and this to me was a bit, well, it just
didn't seem to match very well. I wish they would
have just stuck to the slasher concept and kept it
simple but I guess it's hard to sell something like
that these days since companies want ghosts, spirits
and diaries of serial killers.
However, that was my only major concern with this
movie. Tiffany Shepis gives us one of her strongest
performances ever and the acting is over-all decent
and Rolfe made a good move offing the worst actor
first. The characters are all easy to root for even
though they're a bit shallow and just like in The
Hazing, there's a couple of comic relieves which
really work in favour of the movie.
Ultimately I did enjoy Nightmare Man but I wish that
they would have kept it simple. It's a good movie
and I will definitely recommend it to slasher fans
and Shepis fans but if you ask me, you should just
skip the final 25 minutes or so. It's not a movie
which will stick with you for a long time but it's
a decent way to kill an hour and a half.

We get some pretty cool death scenes including an
arrow through ones mouth, a knife through ones head
and a pretty cool impalement.

The rock music was competent enough and served the
movie well. The suspense score was average at best.
Nothing special here.

Decent slasher/demon horror movie which might be
entertaining enough to kill an hour and a half with
but won't stay in memory for long. Had they only
kept it simple I'm sure it would have been much
more pleasurable but it is what it is so if you
decide to see it; keep an open mind.
