Five
friends are on a road trip through the desert when
they collide with another car. With one of the friends
hurt badly as a result of the accident, they have to
find a way to get in touch with a hospital as soon as
possible. Richard, the man whose car they ran into,
gladly assists them, but getting in touch with someone
when none of their cell phones are working is a tricky
thing to do. And to make matters even worse, there's
something evil lurking around outside.

Loosely based on the events that occurred in Phoenix in
1997, Night Skies is just what you expect it to be - a
horror movie with aliens. Now as we all know by now,
making an alien-themed horror flick is a hard thing to
do, and few have managed to pull it off. So when Night
Skies not only turned out to be entertaining, but also
extremely creepy - I was more than pleasantly surprised.
I started watching this with all my Christmas lights
on in the room, thinking that I was in for some average
DTV horror flick, but as soon as the lights appeared
in the sky, I turned them off as I had a feeling that
this was going to be something special - and man was
it ever! The strange lights in the sky causes five
friends who are travelling in a van to crash into a
car that's standing still by the side of the road.
They find out that the man who owns the car is named
Richard and that the engine just died on him - not
very original but it works.
After a while the friends start taking notice of some
strange sounds outside the van, and you jump more than
once when the aliens make their creepy appearances.
This is just what a modern alien movie should be like.
It's suspenseful and keeps you on the edge of your
seat through and through, and get this, it actually
dares to be a real horror flick. No humour to break
the tension, no silly action scenes, just pure horror.
I'm pretty sure that this was meant to be a theatrical
movie since it looks like it had a rather high budget.
The directing is top-notch, the acting is even better
(I mean, who doesn't love AJ Cook right?) and the
story is very well executed. Naturally, it does have
some problems though - the abduction scene for
instance. It felt rushed and occasionally cheesy.
Other than that, I don't have any real complaints.
Night Skies is definitely a movie you should check out
if you enjoy alien-themed horror flicks. It will keep
you on the edge of your seat and won't let up for a
second. I've always said that the best movies are those
based on true stories, and this movie has once again
proven my theory. Don't miss this brilliant horror
movie as it's one of the best alien movies ever.

A lot of blood splatter, a knife in the back and some
more. Not a whole lot of gore. Sorry guys.

Creepy and atmospheric score which does what it's
intended to do. Could have been a bit more powerful
but overall, it did the trick.

Two thumbs up for this chilling and suspenseful horror
flick that actually dares to tackle the alien subject
in a down-right scary way rather than turning it into
a horror comedy. No matter whether you like alien
movies or not, I strongly recommend this movie as it's
one of the most entertaining ones that I've seen in a
long, long time.
