Guldem wants to become a singer when she graduates
from college and she's currently enjoying stories
that her bands drummer wrote for her. One day Guldem's
boyfriend finds one of his stories and makes fun
of it. The boy commits suicide and now, one year
later, it seems as if he's returned to the school
for revenge, right before the final exams.

Okul in Swedish basically means unfunny, which is
indeed a very good description for the movie. The
plot is simple and lacks of both horror and comedy,
it survives as neither. This is one of, if not the
first horror movie that Turkey has ever produced and
I have to say, this is very similar to the average
Bollywood horror flick that's released these days.
What I'm trying to say is that you can barely even
tell that this is supposed to be a horror movie, it's
just like a long Drama thriller. However, the difference
is that this eventually does give you a scare or
two, even if they're very few. I just don't like it
when not one single person dies in a horror movie,
spoilers coming up, not even the person that committed
suicide in the beginning of the movie, end of spoilers.

I can only assume that the two directors of the movie,
Yamul and Durul are related to each other since they
share the same last name. As we know from the Pang
brothers, relatives usually do make quite the directing
couple and that's also the case here. For being their
directorial debut it looks very good. The directing is
beautiful with lots of vibrant colours and perhaps
not good, but still quite unusual angles which always
increases ones interest in watching the movie. The
acting skills are also pretty good honestly. The only
thing that bugged me was the fact that it wasn't
really a horror movie.

The movie's rated PG though so one can assume that
it won't be that scary (though there was quite a bit
of nudity in the movie which I felt was odd). The
suspenseful scenes that they try to create are almost
always unoriginal and feel out of place. How many
times haven't we seen people walk out of mirrors or
a ouija board going out of hand. It's like they've
taken good suspenseful scenes from other movies and
just slightly changed them with some details. Well,
this ghost movie just wasn't for me, I like my ghost
stories scary rather than long and depressing.

Sorry, you won't be seeing any gore in this at all.

ffective. We get some rock music and some piano
music but it does feel like the movie could've
used some more music in the "suspenseful" scenes.

Like I said, this ghost movie just wasn't for me,
I like my ghost stories scary rather than long and
depressing. The movie feels very long and drawn-out
and unless you're a fan of watching movies that
will make time go slower I can't say that I recommend
this one. Still, it's fun to have Turkey in the
horror movie business as well, welcome!
