An overworked
couple decides to go on vacation in
the last minute, just to be able to get away from
everything and spend some more time with each other.
Well, they're in for some intense time spending.
When they go scuba diving one day, their boat
drives off without them, leaving them stranded
in the middle of the ocean. And as if that wasn't
enough, they're drifting further and further out
along with some very mean and hungry white sharks.

After reading what have felt like thousands of
positive reviews for this movie, my expectations
could not possibly have been higher than they
were. Now, after having seen this "horror movie
of the century" I have to say that I'm starting
to lose faith in other reviewers. Either that or
I just didn't get this movie at all. It uses the
exact same formula as Blair Witch did. It gives
you the feeling of that you could be one of the
people on the screen since these people are
actual human beings. It also helps that the movie
looks like a family vacation video. But it also
has the same flaw that I felt that Blair Witch
had; it has no plot!
For over one hour we get to see a couple floating
around in the ocean... and so? There's nothing more
to it. Oh yah, they've thrown in a couple of sharks
into the water to be able to call this a drama thriller
or even a horror thriller. Well, again, so? All these
sharks do is basically take a munch out of one's leg
or nibble on one's foot. Guess what? It's just not
that scary. All I felt after having watched this
movie was emptiness. There was just no story in
this. I mean, yeah, it's a decent time spender
since you really do wonder where the hell that
hour went off to but it's really not much better
than anything else that's released these days.
I'm not a big fan of the Blair Witch Project and
I'm suspecting that the people who liked these movie
are. If you, like me, did not think that Blair Witch
was a good movie, you will probably only think that
Open Water is average, like I did. However, if you
did like the BWP, I have no idea how you will feel
about this movie. All I can say is that I expected
a horror movie with a lot of intense moments in it
but all I got was a drama thriller with two, yes
I will use the P word, pathetic jump scenes in it.
I am not impressed!

Like I said, a shark takes a small bite of one's
leg. Nothing more, this is not a horror movie.

I don't know what to refer to as soundtrack or
not in this movie. It all just floated together
like a mass. Ummm... yeah, I'm pretty certain
that I did not like this "mass" however.

Averagely entertaining drama thriller with absolutely
no horror in it at all. Should've gone direct to video
in my opinion but apparently I must be wrong since
this has scored some excellent reviews. Don't trust
me on this one folks, better read someone else's
review since I seem to be the only one who doesn't
praise this movie as the horror movie of the century.
May I also add "The best shark movie since Jaws"
my ass!
