Sam wakes up in
the hospital only to realize that he's
just managed to escape from eternal damnation in hell.
Unfortunately there are a couple of reapers out to get
him so he teams up with a couple of other people who
have managed to escape from hell in order to stay
alive. To make things worse though, he soon finds out
that his girlfriend, Hanna, has recently disappeared.
While running from the reapers, he has to find his
girlfriend and stay away from the cops.

DTV horror flicks are a bitch to sit through for most
of the time, but every once in a while there comes a
movie that makes it all worth it. The Other Side is
another proof that money has nothing to do with the
quality of the movie. The budget was only $15,000
dollars and still this movie is competent in every
possible way. This genius film is not only extremely
original but also very entertaining, fulfilling and
emotional. I was actually surprised when I saw that
the budget was so limited as I thought that the movie
looked like a million bucks. Don't ask me how they
did it, but Gregg Bishop really pulled this one off.
The plot revolves around Samuel North who's on his way
back to his home town to meet his girlfriend, only to
wake up several hours later in the hospital. While
being unconscious, Sam had horrible visions of pain
and suffering, but he soon realizes that he was in
fact dead and has just managed to escape from hell
along with a couple of other people. Unfortunately,
life isn't given so easily, and three reapers have
come after them to collect their souls. To make things
worse, Sam's girlfriend has now gone missing and Sam
has to do everything he can in order to find her.
While definitely not a movie for everyone, I think
that anyone who can enjoy a deep and complex horror
film will absolutely love this. I know I did. Why?
Well let's break it down shall we? First of all there's
the genius story that's so intriguing that you don't
even want to pause the film for a toilet break. There
are so many things going on and it's obvious that a lot
of effort was put into every single frame of this movie
and perhaps that's the best thing about this film. It
has a heart and soul. Then we have the amazing cast
of Jaimie Alexander (who we remember from Kyle XY and
Rest Stop) and newcomer Nathan Mobley along with
other very talented actors who seem to have dedicated
every bone in their bodies to their characters.
But perhaps most importantly, the directing is just
flawless. Gregg Bishop hasn't just written a great
script, but he has executed it in a brilliant way.
The attention to details in this film is amazing. This
is a director to look out for y'all. I don't want to
spoil too much for you though but seriously, you have
got to check this one out. This is without a doubt one
of the best horror flicks of the year. It's a brilliant
horror flick with a genius story and even though it
didn't have the highest of budgets, it still looks
like a million bucks. Don't miss this one.

We get impalements, bloody gunshot wounds, a hole
through the stomach (a la Goldie Hawn) and an arm
ripped off. Not bad.

Even the soundtrack was cleverly put together with a
mixture of pop music and atmospheric suspense music.

A top-notch thriller with an intriguing and original
concept that I would never have been able to come up
with. This is a horror movie with a soul and man do
I love when they have a soul. Every frame is just as
important as the other and every dialogue is necessary.
This is not an ordinary DTV flick so don't miss this
one, it's a terrific movie.
