Robert is a very successful piano player and he
really has everything a man could wish for. When
a doctor tells him that he's got a rare, fatal
decease, causing him to age rapidly, he snaps.
He starts to kill anyone who finds out about his
decease and refuses to face his horrible destiny.
Will the police figure out who's doing all these
killings or will Robert's reign of terror stop
first when he dies?

Phantom Of Death is one of the less famous Italian
giallo slashers from the brilliant mind of
Ruggero Deodato and there's a reason for that.
After Deodato's unsuccessful stab at the slasher
genre with Body Count (Camping Del Terrore) in
1987, he decided to give it one more try with
this one in 1988 before abandoning the genre
for good. Phantom Of Death is definitely one of
Deodato's worst works.

The movie has some serious pacing problems and
since Robert isn't a very likable character, it's
difficult to stay interested in what's happening
to him. To be fair though, Michael York gives us
one of his best performances ever in this flick
and the aging make-up on Michael is just brilliant.
Apart from that, the movie's got very little to
offer. There are a few good kills in the
beginning but the body count seizes after about
20 minutes. After that we don't get to see much
more blood. I don't even want to think about how
dull the cut version must be, I saw the uncut one.

Poor Deodato probably just wants to forget that
he ever had anything to do with this movie, he's
usually much better than this, this is no Cannibal
Holocaust I tell you that. It's got a couple of
things going for it but for most of the time this
is a very slow paced movie with a story which
could've been better. Check out Deodato's other
works instead as this is one of his worst ones.

We get some slashed throats and a decapitation.

Not your typical 80s score but still not very
good. I usually like the cheesy Italian 80s
scores but this one didn't appeal to me at all.

Rather dull slasher drama about a man who is
aging rapidly due to a virus. He snaps and starts
to kill people who find out about his decease.
As you can hear, the plot could have been better
and the body count is surprisingly low for a
Deodato movie. Don't bother with this one.
