Lester and his son Buddy have lived and worked on a pig
farm for as long as they can remember. Now, the sheriff
and some other men are putting him out of business.
Naturally Lester won't give without a fight and Buddy
has an excellent plan of how they should get rid of the
problem. The plan basically is kill everyone who comes
close to the farm and let time do the rest. Well, on a
stormy night a couple of friends decide to sneak into
the old slaughterhouse... BIG mistake!

Pig Farm Massacre, perhaps more commonly known as
Slaughterhouse, is the 80's take on Texas Chain Saw
Massacre. Personally I think that it resembled the remake
more than the original which leads one to suspect that
the writers of the remake must've gotten some inspiration
from this low budget flick. When I put this in my DVD
player I felt pretty certain that I would hate it and
well, it's not a good movie, but it's not as terrible
as I thought that it would be.

The story has been told hundreds of times before, crazy
family butchering innocent teens and preferably put them
up on slaughter hooks. There's absolutely no originality
in it at all and the subplot of the sheriff taking over
the slaughterhouse doesn't add much to the story. I think
that it could have done better without it actually. The
movie is also very predictable and you can almost tell
by certain who's going to survive from the first time you
see the partying students.

We get to know all of the characters very shallowly and
the faces are pretty forgettable so it doesn't help that
the two main girls in the movie look like twins. The
acting is quite average and it is kind of strange that
none of these actors made it big as they all do seem to
have the potential. The directing is also very average
for 80's slasher flicks and that was no big surprise.

There are a couple of things that I did like the movie
as well, obviously or I wouldn't give it a two in rating.
First of all, the killer, Buddy, doesn't speak, he just
oinks like a pig which to me was pretty creepy as I just
hate pigs. It set the right atmosphere for the movie.
Second of all, it's never dull, there seems to be something
going on in every scene. And finally, there are a couple
of killer chase scenes and I have missed a good chase
scene for so long now that it was nice to get to see a
few. This doesn't make it a good movie though, not at
all, it just makes it bearable to sit through.

A guy gets his hand decapitated and we get to see a
mangled guy (he was thrown into the pig disposer but
I hardly think that that disposer could kill anything
in the pace that it went in). Anyway, not very gory
but I'm not complaining.

The opening titles are presented along with some groovy
swing music, which was an excellent choice. We also get
some hillbilly rock and a lot of 80's pop music. To my
big surprise we also got a little drum'n bass which I
didn't even know existed back in the 80s.

Another forgotten slasher gem of the 80s, and perhaps that's
for the best. It's still not a terrible movie and for those
who like crazy hillbilly family movies like Wrong Turn and
TCM, it might be pretty enjoyable. I'm a big fan of both of
those movies so I found it pretty pleasing, though far from
as pleasing as a Pig Farm Massacre movie should be. Cheesy.
