Eight friends
are going away for a weekend of fun and
partying at a remote cabin. When they arrive, they're
greeted by cobwebs and filth as the cabin is anything
but a luxury resort. What's even worse is that there's
a killer on the loose, lurking in the forest outside.
Will anyone survive this weekend or will they all fall
victim of the masked killer?

I seldom watch Indonesian horror flicks, even though
Indonesia produce several horror movies every year
that do quite good business at the local box-office.
Why? Well there are several reasons. First there's
the fact that most of them are incredibly hard to
come by unless you happen to live in Indonesia. Then
there's the fact that Indonesian movies are usually
flat out shit - and that's just what Psikopat is. It
has got to be one of the most miserable slasher flicks
ever made. A friend of mine once told me that I shouldn't
express anger in my reviews, so that's why I've decided
to do a sarcastic part of this review, just to be able
to tell you how much I truly hated this movie, without
actually being negative, so here goes.
Sarcastic part begins here; Psikopat is an extremely
well-crafted slasher flick filled with originality.
The special effects are just top-notch, and best of
all, they NEVER become even remotely annoying. The
director uses many creative angles that work on many
levels with a cast that gives us great performances.
Psikopat is also filled with suspense and atmosphere
as the constant screaming of the panicking teens is
just a treat for the ear. But the best of all things
have to be the incredibly scary-looking killer. I mean,
a homemade tin-foil mask and a yellow t-shirt? It just
doesn't get any scarier than that. End of sarcastic
part of review.
If you didn't get the sarcasm, Psikopat is an incoherent
mess that feels poorly put together. And the "cutting
effect" gets so annoying that it can almost definitely
give the viewer a severe case of epilepsy. The story
is very basic and I still don't get how they could
screw it up so badly. The killer shows up from out of
nowhere and starts killing the teens (not a moment too
late though as these teens are some of the most
annoying, obnoxious people ever to be put in a slasher
flick). Since there are eight teens in here, I figured
we'd at least get some good gore scenes, but no. I think
there was one actual on-screen killing, and that one
wasn't exactly a bloodbath.
For the rest of the death scenes, we basically just
get to see the victim turn around and scream and then
the frame freezes and cuts to a different scene. Not
very entertaining at all. I swear, Psikopat looks
like a homemade amateur slasher made by a couple of
friends (and judging by the acting, this might very
well have been the case). What beats me is how this
managed to get into cinemas in Indonesia. Surely even
they know that this is crap.
Perhaps the censorship works a bit different over in
Indonesia - if this is the case, I see why they haven't
made any more slasher flicks before this (or after).
Either way, Psikopat is an abomination. Don't spend
two months trying to track this one down, like I did,
instead, forget that you ever heard about it. Believe
you me, it's for the best.

Eight teens and one lousy on-screen kill? I don't even
know what happened to most of the teens, they just
kind of went away.

1,2,3, disco music. Effective the first time we heard
it, less effective the second time, ridiculous the third
time. Just awful soundtrack, awful.

I'm not sure what these guys were thinking when they
made this film, or if they were even thinking at all.
Clearly the slasher genre wasn't made to be tackled
by the Indonesian film industry. Hopefully they'll
stick to making generic ghost movies from now on as
that seems to be the only thing that they're decent at.
