"To my big surprise, Pulse 3 wasn't atrocious"

It's been seven years since Justine's parents were
killed by the high-tech ghosts that's been taking
over the world. She now lives with her foster
parents in a small camp for survivors. However,
when she finds a laptop hidden in a car, she can't
help but to be a bit curious. As exciting as it
all may seem at first, she has no idea what she
just started by pushing that on button.

Pulse 2: Afterlife was one of the, if not THE, worst
horror movies ever. It was absolutely atrocious. The
whole thing was shot in front of a green screen, the
story was horrifyingly bad and the acting was beyond
terrible. Needless to say I wasn't really looking
forward to watching Pulse 3 since it was shot back
to back with Pulse 2. Heck, on IMDb it's not even listed
as horror, it's listed as Sci-Fi. Well let me tell
you something, just because a movie's poorly green
screened, it doesn't mean that it's a Sci-Fi movie.
Anyway, to my big surprise, Pulse 3 wasn't atrocious.
I mean, it's obviously bad but it's actually watchable.
This time it's not 90% of the movie that's been shot
in front of a green screen, it's more like 50% and
they seem to have spent more time and money on making
the background look good this time.

Another thing that I appreciated with Pulse 3 was that
it had an actual story-line in it. Sure, it's not
great and pretty far-fetched (like an internet
romance that blossoms up after 6 instant messages
and causes Justine to embark on a long journey to
the city) but it's pretty interesting and Brittany
Renee Finamore gives us a surprisingly good performance.
Seriously, this girl has scream-queen potential
written all over her and I'm happy to see that she
has three upcoming horror films coming out. So what
is the story about? Well it opens with Justine, who
we remember as the blonde kid from Pulse 2, being
bored at a shelter for survivors, wanting to find out
what really happened to the world. After finding a
laptop and falling in love with some guy named Adam
who's she's IM'd with once, she decides to elope to
the big city on a quest for Adam.

Naturally she gets into some trouble on the way and
has to face countless terrors. The characters in the
movie are nicely developed and it really seems as if
they spent MUCH more time and effort on this project
than on Pulse 2 for some reason. Everything's so
much better this time around. Heck, there's even a
few moments of suspense to be found in here, even
if there's nothing that will really scare the hell
out of you. In the end, Pulse 3 isn't as big of a
cheat as Pulse 2 was but it's probably not worth
checking out anyway. Don't get me wrong, it's very
nice that this came out better than Pulse 2 but
let's leave this franchise alone now, no more sequels
please, give us Valentine 2, The Pool 2, Flashback 2
or Cherry Falls 2 but not Pulse 4.

No.

Meh.

A vast improvement over the previous sequel but still
not good enough to spend your money on. I hope that
they leave this franchise alone now, they wrecked it
enough with the remake in the first place. Better than
expected though so thank god for that.
