Jody
Hatfield and Ricky McCoy are in a complicated
relationship due to their families never-ending feud
(over a motorcar). When two of Jody's brothers
accidentally kills Ricky's sister, Ricky decides to
put an end to the feud - and the Hatfield family
once and for all (with the exception of Jody). He
visits the old woman in the woods, and brings
Pumpkinhead back to life to get his revenge.

Despite the fact that we all ready know how the
movie's going to end (that's what I love about these
films, there's only one way to kill Pumpkinhead, no
exceptions what-so-ever), and the fact that I've
completely forgotten everything about Pumpkinhead 3
(even if I only saw it a couple of weeks ago), this
fourth instalment in the Pumpkinhead series turned
out to be surprisingly decent. Sure, it's filled with
flaws and poor actors and the story is pretty
mediocre, but the final twenty minutes make up for
the first hour, and I ultimately came out of this
movie quite pleasantly surprised.
Slightly better than the third instalment, this
sequel revolves around two feuding hillbilly families
and a burning love between Jody Hatfield and Ricky
McCoy. Now, I think this was supposed to be set in
the present but for some reason everything about
the movie makes it feel like it's set the 19th
century. Everything from the clothes, to the way
they talk, to the feud feels very 19th century, so
why is there a Chevrolet in here? Very peculiar.
Where was I? Oh right, so two of Jody's brothers
end up killing Ricky's sister, which causes Ricky
to summon Pumpkinhead so that he can take revenge
on Jody's entire family... and well, we all know
what happens next.
Pumpkinhead 3 definitely failed to impress me and
while Pumpkinhead 4 isn't a masterpiece either, it's
still good enough for a rainy night (they did
the right thing sending this straight to the Sci-Fi
channel). It was very obvious that the two sequels
were shot back-to-back as the sets hadn't changed
one bit and once again Lance Henriksen reprises his
role as Ed Harley's unnecessary ghost. It's safe to
say that without its final shining twenty minutes or
so, Pumpkinhead 4 would have felt just as mediocre
and bland as the third sequel, but there's just
something about this one that makes it feel less
forgettable (could it be the surprisingly high
amount of gore perhaps?).

Heads get ripped off, smashed or crushed while guts
pour out of peoples bodies and feet get dismembered.
There is no lack of gore in this sequel and I think
that might have been the reason as to why I enjoyed
this more than the previous sequel.

Hillbilly music and average suspense score.

Pumpkinhead: Blood Feud will most likely keep you
watching until the end because it's just entertaining
enough to keep you from pressing that power button
on the remote control. Slightly better than the
previous sequel, and definitely gorier, I can
definitely go ahead and recommend this to any fan
of this franchise (especially if you were disappointed
by the previous instalment).
