People have been turning up dead in the strangest ways lately
in the Manhattan area and the police is forced to question if
there's more than the average serial killer who's responsible
for the gruesome murders. It doesn't take long before they
realise that they have something much worse on their hands as
a giant bird-like creature is terrorizing New York from above.

"Q" is like a flying version of King Kong, only in colour. Due
to the fact that CGI graphics didn't exist back in the 1980's,
the flying serpent didn't look very realistic. But I knew
that before I sat down to watch the movie so I was prepared
for much worse graphics than what I got. This is from what I
understand supposed to be an old cult classic and I had heard
good things about it before so I knew that it would be a
somewhat good movie even if it wouldn't be excellent. After
having
watched it, I have to say that I enjoyed it
more than what I thought I would.
Larry Cohen, the man responsible for bringing us such cheesy
classics as "It's Alive", "The Stuff", and "Full Moon High"
uses many elements to make us feel like we're actually a part
of the movie. Some of the shots over New York are powerful
enough to make you feel dizzy of the height even if you're just
watching it on your normal television. Too bad the acting
doesn't match up to Cohen's performance as a director. The
dialogues are plain and simple which doesn't exactly help
the cast to work as credible actors.
When you reflect over the movie, you realise that there wasn't
really a lot going on but still it managed to somehow keep
your interest for most part. I think that if you succeed with
that you have made a pretty slick movie after all even if it
might not deserve an Oscar. "Q" is really just another cheesy
horrormovie that came out of the 80's and disappeared for a
couple of years and to finally come back on DVD 20 years
later to remind you what quality horrormovies used to look
like. I think this is quality entertainment and I know that
if it would have been made today, it would have been even
better since we have such good technology today so for a
movie made 20 years ago, this is pretty good.

A dismembered foot falls down on the street, a man loses the
head in a very odd way, a man gets flayed with a knife until
all of the skin has been removed and some corpses are found.
Pretty much what I had expected.

Some eerie strings fill our rooms with tension and high atmosphere
and really manages to do what it's intended. We also get some
80's pop music for a couple of seconds but nothing very
noticeable.
One thing in particular that I noticed was the
weird choice of
music in a chase scene where they had
put in some male singing
a terrible song.

In my opinion, this is a bit overrated. Alright, it's original
and entertaining but it's just too cheesy to be taken seriously
and it's just not funny enough to make you laugh. Pretty
standard movie if you ask me. If you're in for a cheesy classic,
I would have to recommend this movie. But remember,
it's from
the 80's, the effects aren't very good.
