A mad doctor has come up with a serum which will turn
people into zombie-like, rage-filled mutants. Everything
is under control until one of his test subjects escape
and falls down dead in the forest. A group of vultures
find the contaminated corpse and start picking away
at it, causing them to get the decease. Soon enough,
all hell has broken loose and it's up to a group of
friends to stop this madness before they become the
next victims...

Usually when I have mixed feelings towards a film
I end up giving it 3/5, and this is also what I was
going to do with The Rage until the final act of the
movie. The Rage is a campy throwback to 80s horror
flicks such as Re-Animator and at first I really
enjoyed it. It was obviously intentionally campy and
really managed to capture the essence of what these
kind of films were really all about in the 80s. It's
gory, it's fast-paced, it's got bad actors and it's
extremely over-the-top. The downfall? Some of the
actors are actually TOO bad, one of them actually even
seems to be laughing while running away from the
infected vultures. The ending is also just TOO over
the top, it went too far and it simply wasn't funny
anymore, it was just bad. It was a good concept but
they simply overdid it.

In the 80's, horror flicks couldn't rely on CGI
effects like today and that's another issue that I had
with this movie. While they've stayed away from using
CGI-gore as much as possible (except for from a few
awful shots at the end which look just AWFUL), the
rabid birds are completely CGI made and the budget
simply didn't allow this. This took away a lot from
the experience and reminded you that you weren't
watching a cult flick from the 80s but a cheesy new
DTV movie. Something you should never be reminded of.
Other than that, the story is kind of fun - silly, but
fun. The directing is somewhat decent and the movie
does look fairly good technically. It's definitely
not the cult hit that it wants to be but it's got
some good things about it.

Unfortunately, there are too many con's and not enough
pro's in this cheesy horror flick. Anyone who's not a
horror fan will turn it off after 10 minutes and tell
you something like "Oh my god, this is absolute crap!",
and the thing is, they're probably right. The Rage is
more or less crap, it's just that it's crap with a
heart and I think that most horror fans will get what
they were trying to achieve. Occasionally it works,
but for most of the time it doesn't. Had they only had
a better ending, I would definitely have given it a
higher rating but that awful ending was a deal breaker
for me. I'm just not into mutant midget cross dressers.
Yeah, I know right? I told you it went too over-the-top
didn't I? Mildly entertaining and extremely gory but
not something that you have to check out any time soon.

Too much to even try to describe it. You won't be
disappointed, there's A LOT of red stuff to be found.

Eh, decent rock score, nothing memorable.

DTV horror flicks wanting to become instant cult hits
are usually really bad and The Rage doesn't succeed
very well either unfortunately. It's an okay movie for
the first act but the second act is just awful. Sadly.
Didn't live up to its potential.
