A virus is spreading quickly; people suffocate to death, and everything
seems to have to do with a strange videotape that has recently been
found. Dr. Ando and Mai Takano investigates the case after Mai's
teacher, Professor Takayama, died a sudden death. There seems to be
no logical explanation for how the virus is spread as some people
suffocate to death and some die of a sudden heart attack. Mai & Ando
have to try to stop this virus before it kills them both.

This movie was made as a sequel to Ringu and was actually released
at the same time as Ringu was so that people would want to see the
other one after viewing one of them. When Ringu became a huge box-
office hit and Rasen flopped completely (not surprisingly), the
team behind the movie decided to ignore that they had ever released
Rasen and made a movie called Ringu 2, which was released a bit
later. Ringu 2 however was a much bigger hit and rolled in enough
money to make a third movie. Most people don't know about Rasen,
neither did I until just recently. Now I wish that I had never
heard of it. Rasen lacks of just about everything that a Japanese
horrormovie can lack of, there are no scares, no suspense, no
long haired creepy girl and no real story. Rasen just didn't live
up to its predecessor.

The acting is bad. The actors doesn't seem to know what the hell's
going on in this film, making it even more confusing for us to
understand what's going on. I don't think this was the actor’s fault
though as they were all very good in the Ringu movies that most
of them starred in. The directing was good, but not as excellent
and creepy as the other Ringu movies, still, it was really nice
and I loved the way the ending scene was shot, the use of colours
was just delicious.

If Ringu 2 is ever released on DVD in the states, it should have
this movie as a special feature saying 'Includes the crap that
could have ended the Ringu series'. It wasn't all that bad though
and that's why I decided to give it more than 1 star, it still
does have the videotape in it, and if you think of it as a stand
alone movie, it's actually not that bad, but if you compare it
to the other Ringu movies, it's awful.

Nothing really disgusting in here, all we get is a quite cool
autopsy in the beginning.

Pretty much like Ringu. Some piano music, some strings, and some
drums that felt very weird as they kept on messing around with
the volume while playing it.

I think that we should follow the company's advice and ignore
that this movie was ever made. Go get the real Ringu 2 instead,
a lot better than this. However, since it is pretty rare, I would
have to suggest that if you get the chance to see it, you take it.
