Tang Yin is a famous female writer who focuses on
writing love stories (which later become big
blockbusters). One day she decides that it's time
to explore some new grounds and starts writing a
horror novel. It doesn't take long before strange
things start occurring around her and she soon finds
herself stuck in a ghost world. What is this place
and why is she here? Could it have something to do
with her latest book?

I'm always excited to see what the Pang brothers
manage to throw together as I am a big fan of them
but when I started watching this movie I was a bit
sceptical (mind you I hadn't seen the trailer). The
movie starts out like a relatively poor mix between
"The Eye" and "The Grudge" with black-haired ghosts
and creepy visions, sure it's suspenseful and makes
you jump a few times but I'm so sick of black-haired
ghosts that I was hugely disappointed to see that
the Pang brothers didn't want to make something a
little bit different. 40 minutes later they proved
me wrong as the movie takes a crucial turn for the
better and becomes an odd mix between Silent Hill
and Alice In Wonderland (like so many other people
have described this movie).

Re-Cycle is labelled as horror but even though the
movie is filled with ghosts, zombies and eerie
sceneries, I consider this to be more of a fantasy
movie than anything else. With that said, it's
definitely not a movie for everyone. It's a visually
stunning trip which will force you to think a little.
Even though it seemed so at first, the Pang brothers
really didn't let me down with this movie.

I was happy to see that they had brought Angelica Lee
back as she is a great actress. Sure, her character
is pretty shallow and there really isn't a whole lot
of dialogue going on in the movie but she pulls through
and still makes the viewer root for her. The acting
over-all is really good actually so I have nothing
negative to comment on here. However, I did have some
issues with this movie which is why I "only" gave it
a rating of four.

First of all, I'm not really a fantasy fan, I've
only seen one of the "Lord Of The Rings" movies and
to be honest, it really wasn't my cup of tea. Second
of all, I didn't really get why they had to make the
first half of the movie so unoriginal. And finally,
even though the effects were cool to look at, I didn't
think that all of them were necessary. I've always
believed that a good movie should be able to stand
by itself and not have to rely on flashy special effects.

Re-Cycle is still a great movie though and I strongly
recommend it for fans of the genre (fantasy that is,
not horror). It's a bit too abstract for me and
ultimately not my cup of tea but I still ended up
liking it so do give it a shot. If you like the
trailer, I can guarantee you that you will like the
entire movie, that's a promise.

Nothing much here.

I LOVED the heavy drums and the orchestral music.
Great and powerful soundtrack which really grabbed
my attention. This is what a horror movie score
should be like. I loved it.

Re-Cycle isn't really a horror movie but I still
think that you ought to give it a chance because
even though I'm personally not a fan of fantasy,
I still ended up loving this movie. It's a great
and thrilling ride which will force you to think.
