The entire
world has been contaminated by the horrible
infection and every living thing has died or become
living dead. It's now up to Alice and a group of
survivors who have seek shelter in the Nevada desert
to find out if there's a way to rescue our planet.

The first Resident Evil was a blast, it had action,
gore, suspense and a great story - even though it was
based on a videogame. The second Resident Evil was,
in my humble opinion, quite pathetic with a corny
plot and action scenes that'd only impress immature
videogame fanatics and minors. The third instalment
in this relatively successful franchise blends the
two previous movies together and ends up being better
than the last sequel, but still quite flat and mediocre.
This time Alice finds herself stranded in the Nevada
desert (for budget reasons obviously, you can tell
straight away, believe me) together with a group of
survivors. There's a pretty strong cast in here and
Ali Larter outshines Milla Jovovich any day so why
they decided to cast her in this is beyond me since
Milla has to settle in the background. Unfortunately,
none of these outstanding actors are given very deep
characters. They cry, the scream, they laugh... well,
perhaps they don't laugh but you get the idea, there's
nothing more to them than that. They're very flat,
just like the rest of the movie.
Sure, watching Alice slice a bunch of zombies throats
open with a pair of machetes is kick-ass, but surely
they shouldn't have to recycle old Uwe Boll material.
Resident Evil 3 does actually feel like a Boll flick
in several ways with a pointless story, a flat cast,
and lots of good-looking action that seems to have
only been put there as fodder and to impress the "cool"
kids in school. Don't get me wrong though, Resident
Evil: Extinction does have a good concept and it is
mildly entertaining, I just think that they could have
taken it so much further than they did. I actually
left the theatre feeling kind of cheated as the entire
movie takes place in the desert. It felt cheap.
Nevertheless, if you're a fan of the Resident Evil
series, which I'm no longer (yes, the first one was
great but the last two ones had none of the intensity
that the first one contained), Resident Evil 3 won't
disappoint. It's like watching someone else play a
game on Xbox, and while you don't mind it, you'd rather
be doing something else instead.

An arrow in head, a hole in head, slashed throats, some
more, I wasn't blown away.

Nothing groundbreaking, the expected rock music and
apocalyptic score. It's been done.

I'm hoping that this franchise ends as a trilogy as
I really didn't feel like sitting through this movie.
I came out rather pleased since it wasn't as bad as
the last movie, but to me, this was still a rather
mediocre fair and I won't be buying this on DVD. If
you're a fan of Resident Evil, sure, check it out,
you'll probably love it. But are you really one to
judge Uwe Boll's flicks if that's the case? I think
his Bloodrayne was at least as entertaining as this.
