A couple of friends go on a vacation to a house
in the mountains. Soon enough, a masked killer
shows up and starts killing the friends off one
after one. Who is this mysterious killer?

Out of all the crappy DTV horror movie covers
they could've copied, they chose to copy the
cover for Ax 'Em. Naturally, this made me a bit
sceptical towards watching this movie but when
I heard that the killer was masked, I knew
that I was going to have to see this after all.

The movie, which by the way looks like it was
copied directly from VHS since the DVD has a
typically homemade VHS to DVD-R menu, starts out
incredibly slowly. There are no real characters
in the movie and they all feel very fake - maybe
the fact that the actors were atrocious added
to that as well, who knows. Anyhoo, after having
sat through some painful 40 minutes, it looked
like the movie was finally getting somewhere.

With a kick-ass introduction of the killer (he
really comes out of nowhere and scares the hell
out of you), you can only hope that it was all
worth the while. Well, it probably would have
been if you were only able to see what was going
on, because due to very few to no light sources,
it's close to impossible to tell what's happening.

In the end, The Ridge didn't turn out to be as
bad as I had expected it to be, in fact, as soon
as the killer shows up, this is pretty damn
entertaining (even if far from gory). It's just
a shame that the first forty minutes of it
are so incredibly bad that most of you will
have turned it off long before the killer even
gets a chance to do his thing. Give it a shot
if you're patient but don't expect anything
original from this DTV slasher flick.

Nothing worth mentioning here.

There's some cheap but ok pop-music in here and
a pretty good suspense score as well. Could have
been a whole lot worse and actually manages to
create a little atmosphere.

With such a silly plot, such horrible directing
and such atrocious actors, it's amazing how
this turned out to be even remotely entertaining
but the truth is, as soon as the killer shows up
(even if he does it way too late), this is a
pretty fun ride. Watch it if you're a patient
slasher fanatic but don't expect anything new.
