Molly gets sent to a mental institution to try
a new method to make her forget about her past.
The doctor at the institution puts his patients
in a state of hypnotism so that he can dig deep
into their subconscious and remove the bad thoughts
that they have to live with. Well, when something
goes wrong and all of the patients get stuck in
their subconscious together, there's also another
one who comes along, Jack The Ripper is back to
kill them all.

When I saw that this had just been released in the
Netherlands I just had to order it even if I didn't
think that the first one was too good. I still
haven't really got what was going on in the end of
the first one, and I never liked the fact that we
didn't get a good look of the killer. Well, in this
sequel we get to see the killer clearly but it
hasn't lost the confusing touch. Apparently, Molly
is related to Jack The Ripper, now I never got that
in the first movie, and apparently Jack The Ripper
was a woman, if I got everything right (though I'm
sure that I didn't, it was very hard to tell what
was going on due to the ludicrous plot).
A.J. Cook gets replaced with Erin Karpluk as Molly
Keller in this sequel and I have to admit, they do
have their similarities but I still really missed
A.J. Erin might be a good actress and all that but
she fails in giving Molly that bitchy attitude that
A.J. managed to give her. This is really a no-name
cast and you can tell that these actors really need
to work on their acting skills. Especially the
screaming part. One thing that I especially reacted
to was the directing. I mean, it looks like the
movie had a fairly good budget for a DTV movie but
I haven't seen this kind of camerawork before, at
least not in a horror movie. I mean, the directors
thought that it was cool to make the killer flash
by the screen constantly and it just looked cheap.
The directors can't be big fans of different angles
either since the camera is almost spotted directly
at the actors faces.
Ripper 2 follows the slasher basics better than
the first movie did and instead of being a mysterious
whodunit serial killer flick it turns into a
cheesy sci-fi slasher where the killer's just some
guy in trashy clothes, apparently the killer's
stimulated by Molly's mind, makes sense I guess.
Speaking of making sense, if you ever actually
do see this movie, which I highly advice you not
to do, you will notice that when the whole thing
is over you will just be furious because the ending
makes the rest of the movie seem pointless.
Trust me on this one, stick to the first one.

At least we could've gotten some cool gore, but
noooo, we have to settle with a guy getting his
hand chopped off, a girl who gets an axe in her
back and a couple of slit throats.

The techno-rock (is this thing starting to get
popular?) that was played in the club was truly
awful and don't even get me started on the
main theme. It's a total Exorcist theme rip-off,
I mean, they've tried to disguise it a bit
but it's still obvious that it's the exact
same theme that was used in The Exorcist.

People who have seen few slashers before this will
get a very bad picture of what slashers are all
about. This is not a whodunit, this is a
whowillbeabletostayawakethelongest movie. A huge
disappointment even for me who thought that the
first one was average. Don't expect an entertaining
Jason X kind of sci-fi slasher, expect nothing!
