A psychopath is on the loose in a small town and the
cops are too busy coping with their personal issues
to really care that people are being killed off every
once in a while. Of course there's also a psychotic
chick who's recently escaped from an asylum thrown
into the mix to make it even harder for the cops to
focus on what's going on around them. Will personal
issues be solved and will anyone actually be awake
when this abysmal movie is finally over?

The Rockville Slayer was previously known under the
title "Unaware". Well, this to me seems like a much
more appropriate title as I was completely unaware
of what I was in for when I started to watch this.
The cover suggests that this will be a low budget
slasher flick with some recognizable faces and so
does the opening scene. The movie opens up with a
couple of students getting killed in one of the most
predictable and most clichéd slasher scenes ever.
However, as you all know, I'm a sucker for a cheesy
slasher flick so I figured that this might at least
have a certain entertainment value in it. Well it
didn't take too long before I realized that the
opening scene basically didn't have anything to do
with the rest of the movie.

We're soon introduced to the two main characters,
a female federate cop who's not very convincing as
a cop at all, and a male cop who feels very miscast
as he looks more like a drag queen who's just gone
out of drag than a hard-ass cop. As you might have
realized by now, the acting is absolutely horrendous
and throwing washed-out horror icons like Joe Estevez
and Linnea Quigley into the mix didn't exactly help.
Marc Selz does a terrible job directing this flick.
It looks very unprofessional and even if he would
have had a higher budget to work with, I doubt that
it would've looked much better than this.

If you think that The Rockville Slayer will be a low
budget slasher flick, you are wrong. This is nothing
more than a very cheesy crime drama with a couple of
ludicrous twists and a bunch of dislikeable characters.
I'm actually surprised that Lions Gate didn't release
this as this looks a lot like "Dark Harvest 2: The
Maize" and "Jack O'Lantern" technical wise. I think
I've said enough, do not check this one out, it's not
even good as a psychological thriller, it's just
extremely ludicrous with a pathetic story.

We get a slit throat and some brains, nothing to get
very worked up about.

Have you ever had that feeling that the constant
background music in a low budget horror flick is
actually slowing the movie down? Well, if not,
this will be a first for you.

False marketing is a brilliant way to make a movie
like this seem attractive to the mainstream audience
but mark my words, this is anything but a slasher
flick no matter what the cover might suggest. It's
a ludicrous psychological drama thriller with a
whole lot of nonsense. Do not check this one out!
Oh and if anyone writes a positive comment about this
in the blog below, I know you must've been involved
in the making of this film as no one else could
seriously enjoy this movie at any level.
