People have been
turning up dead in a small town set
in the medieval. Every victim seem to have been
attacked by wolves. As people get more and more
frightened, hunters have started to kill the wolves
around the town. This however doesn't seem to work
very well. When a young woman, Barbara realizes that
the towns most respected man, Romasanta is behind
the murders, she goes on a hunt of her own.

If there's one thing that I've learned from watching
horror movies, it's that you can always trust Filmax
and Fantastic Factory to put out a good looking and
always decent movie. Romasanta is no exception, but
it is one of the less enjoyable Fantastic Factory
movies that I've seen. The action packed werewolf movie
that I expected to get never came. Instead I got
to sit through a slow-paced werewolf drama with no
more than one werewolf transformation. With that
being said though I have to say that the transformation
that we got to see was one of the best I've ever seen
in a werewolf flick. What keeps us interested is the
rather thought-out plot (which is a rare phenomenon
in werewolf movies) and Elsa Pataky, who's clearly
the best thing about this movie.
Julian Sands plays his part as Romasanta as good as
he can but in my opinion, he doesn't suit the part.
Just the thought of an almost fifty year old man
being able to seduce the most beautiful women seems
a bit ludicrous to me (it would've been a different
thing if he at least had the looks to do this).
The movie is rather nicely shot but I never really
got the feeling that this was supposed to take place
in the medieval. Everyone looks to clean and
everything looks and feels too modern so while the
film is nicely directed, I couldn't help thinking
that it might not necessarily have been the best
look for the movie.
It feels like we've seen Romasanta before... and we
actually have but under the title Ginger Snaps 3.
The two movies are very much like each other and it
doesn't feel like this brings any originality to
the werewolf concept, just because Ginger Snaps 3
managed to get released before this did. If you liked
Ginger Snaps 3, you will most likely enjoy this
as well but be aware of that the two films are almost
one and the same. Hopefully Fantastic Factory will
be able to bring us something with a little more
originality and bite in next time. This was too dull
and lacked too much in the suspense area to get a
better rating than three from me.

VERY few on-screen killings, most of them are off
screen and so we get to see a lot of rather gory
corpses and also a girl with two sticks in her
eyes (also happened off-screen though).

I'm not impressed, strokes and violin music, the
average thing. I think a more fast-paced soundtrack
with drums and chase scenes might've spiced the
movie up a bit.

Pretty solid for being a werewolf drama but the thing
is, this was marketed as a action packed werewolf
horror movie and as that, it fails miserably. There
is hardly any action or horror and it has very little
to do with werewolves. Basically it feels more like
a slasher set in the medieval.
