After the death of her mentally ill mother, Katrine
moves into a dorm in Copenhagen to study English. At
first everything seems fine but it doesn't take long
before she becomes very unpopular among the girls at
the dorm. After a mean prank goes wrong, Katrine ends
up unleashing an evil spirit and soon enough the teens
at the dormitory start turning up dead.

After having read countless of negative reviews for
this new Danish horror flick, I was a bit sceptical
heading into it. Perhaps going in with low expectations
was a good idea because I ended up enjoying this flick
quite a lot. Sure, Room 205 isn't groundbreaking in
any way. It's about a long-haired ghost that lives
inside mirrors and kills teens at a dormitory. Not
the most original of ideas. But let me tell you
something, this movie has some of the most awesome
shock effects that I've seen in several years. Hell,
I jumped at every single one of them, and that's
gotta be worth something right?

The movie tells the story of Katrine, a teenaged girl
who's enrolled at a University in Copenhagen to study
English. She moves into a dormitory where she quickly
becomes widely disliked by the girls. They decide to
try to bully her out of the dormitory but when they're
unsuccessful at that, they decide to scare the living
hell out of her instead. Unfortunately for them, they
end up unleashing an evil spirit that has been living
in the bathroom mirror in room 205 for several years.
Katrine and her new-found friend, Rolf, now have to
figure out a way to end this curse before the ghost
kills everyone at the dorm.

It's clichéd, it's poorly written, the acting is a mixed
bag and the movie looks surprisingly cheap despite its
decent production values, but man, when this movie
shines, it's brighter than the sun. Room 205 (or
Kollegiet as it's originally called) is a fast-paced
supernatural teen slasher more or less with some great
death scenes, some awesome scares and a great atmosphere
and I'm sure that had they only spent a little more
time on developing the script, this could have been
a terrific movie. Unfortunately it has so many flaws
that the high lights aren't enough to make up for them.

If you can overlook the poor writing though, you will
still end up with an extremely creepy horror flick
which will definitely entertain you until the very end.
Despite its flaws, I'm actually willing to recommend
this as it's a much better attempt at ripping off
"The Ring" than Danish horror flick "Cecilie" was.
Don't have too high expectations though.

A decapitated body, a piece of mirror impaled into the
eye and some blood splatter. Good stuff.

This was another one of the movies' weaker sides. The
soundtrack fails to create a good atmosphere and even
gets a bit repetitive after a while.

Damn, I'm so mad that they didn't spend more time on
this movie as it really could have been a great and
creepy ghost story. It's got some great scares and
death scenes with a whole lot of potential. If you
feel like jumping around in your seat for an hour and
a half though, this one is not to be missed.
