The never-ending Saw franchise continues as five
random people wake up in a room. Together they have
to fight their way through several traps but in
each trap, a sacrifice must be made. Will they be
able to beat the game? And if so, who will come
out alive? You won't believe how it ends.

Here we go again. Saw 5. Ugh. I don't think that
I know of a single horror website that has actually
been excited about this movie because by now, most
of us have figured out that this is just a cash cow
franchise. Well, I'll be frank with you, I don't
remember much of Saw 4, I remember disliking it
but that's about it, perhaps that's why so little
made sense to me in Saw 5. Anyway, I was hoping
that Saw 5 would move on and start a new story with
new twists but nope, instead of coming up with
something new they're entangling themselves even
more into the plot which is now a complete and
utter mess. There are so many things contradicting
what happened in the previous movies here that it's
beyond frustrating.

We all know that too much back-story isn't a good
thing, and this back-story is just too complex since
most of the audience will find themselves looking
like big question marks once the end credits start
to roll. You won't believe how it ends? More like
you won't understand how it ends. The sad thing is,
I actually didn't mind the subplot in here about
the five people trying to make their way out
through a bunch of traps. They could've done so
much more of that but they should've kept it more
simple. Sure, the "twist" to that subplot was
pretty damn obvious and the characters were pretty
damn stupid not to figure out it right away. I even
said to my friend next time "well why didn't they
just do that instead?". Very predictable
indeed but you know what, this franchise has lost
its steam and is running on empty. I can't
believe that it's still doing great business at the
box-office. Is this the level of quality that we
come to appreciate from Hollywood? That's just sad.

Naturally Saw 5 is completely flat and soulless,
there's no passion behind this franchise anymore.
No one really seems to care but I'm sure that James
Wan is sad to see what Lions Gates has done to his
brilliant film. Yes, Saw was a terrific film but
I've never considered it to be a movie that would
be appropriate for a franchise and I still think
that it should've been just the one. Well, here we
are anyway and unless people stop paying good money
to see these low-rent torture porn flicks, we will
have Saw X before we know it. Is it just me or is
this getting ridiculous? It's time to call it quits
Lions Gate, come up with a new Halloween movie instead
that you can milk to death because this franchise
has been milked dry.

By the way, it's getting 2/5 due to it's decent
subplot and terrific gore scenes. Yes, the gore scenes
were indeed terrific no matter how stupid the movie
itself was so there you have it.

We get a person slowly split in half, a very cool
decapitation, an arm split in half, a body crushed
completely and more.

Same stuff from the previous movies.

The franchise is dead in my eyes, what we're witnessing
here are just some poor spin-offs - like Joey with
Friends. They're doing the best they can to keep
this franchise alive but unless they can invent
something completely new or revive Jigsaw, they're
pretty much screwed. Killing off Jigsaw sure was a
stupid move by Lions Gate.
