Lester is bullied in school, he has an alcoholised mother and he hasn't
got a single friend. When Lester tragically dies, his soul is sent into
a scarecrow. With an opportunity like this, Lester decides to take revenge
on all of those who hurt him while he was alive.

Scarecrow is the one for us slasher fans who ache for more gore in our
horrormovies. York brings us yet another classy slasher with some
originality in it. Does anyone remember Kolobos? That was also from
the team behind York. While not measuring up completely to Kolobos,
this is still a very entertaining slasher. The only thing that I didn't
like very much was all the "humorous" comments that the scarecrow said
before killing a person. Before this was out on DVD, the sequel already
had a DVD release date so I guess they expected it to be a hit.

I was surprised by how good the acting was, especially from Tim Young
who was just terrible in Camp Blood. There's no one who gives a down
right bad performance, which is quite rare to see in lowbudget slashers.
There was one actress I grew especially fond of though, the attitude
girl that looks a lot like Pink, she is just awesome. The directing was
excellently done by Emmanuel Itier who I expect to see more from in the
future. The movie succeeds to look like a proper cinema film and not
like a direct to video movie at all.

I can't say that my expectations for Scarecrow were very high as I think
that everyone agrees with me when I say that the box art is awesome, and
we all know how I feel about box art movies. I just read on IMDB about
this movie after I saw it, expecting it to have a 7 something rating,
but instead I see to my surprise that it has only gotten a 2 something
rating along with a comment that says 'A waste of DVD technology'. What
the hell? When will people learn to appreciate true slashers? We haven't
gotten a proper gory teen slasher in ages so this movie was my saviour
as I started losing fait in new slashers.

Let's begin with a gory but cheesy impaling scene where a guy gets some
big thing, a pipe or something jammed through the stomach. Someone
loses the heart... literarily. Some more impalements then with a stick
through the head and a sickle through the head. And to top it off we
get a very gory head-dismembering scene.

The sound is presented in clear 5.1 surround sound but it doesn't feel
as if they try very hard to make us realise that it is 5.1 sound. The
music contains a lot of rock music along with some pop music, very nice.

If you've hungered for a new gory slasher, look no further, this is it!
I liked Scarecrow on so many levels, it was a bit like a gory version of
Wishcraft... except for the fact that there were no wishes. I have to
admit that I'm a sucker for Scarecrow killers though so I was kind of
bound to like this. My opinion is still that you buy yourself a copy of
this DVD now as it is a very good movie at a very affordable price.
