A strange virus is spreading all over the world,
infecting only the male population, causing them to
kill women. A mother and her daughter are forced to run
away to a safe place, but as the decease is spreading,
it seems like there is no place left where women can
be safe. Is this the end of the human population as
we know it? And perhaps even more importantly, who
started this outbreak?

Joe Dante tones down the political satire in his
second Masters Of Horror episode and gives us an
exciting, original and refreshing story. Perhaps
more suitable as an X-Files episode, The Screwfly
Solution revolves around a mother and her daughter as
they have to escape from the madness that's going
on in the world. A virus is spreading extremely fast,
causing men to kill any woman in sight, the question
is, who triggered this virus?

Unfortunately, the answer is a bit of a disappointment,
it felt like Joe Dante took the easy way out and gave
us a clichéd ending which was way too predictable.
Perhaps if the movie had been longer, they could have
explained more (I really didn't want the movie to end),
but due to the limited amount of time, we get stuck
with a unpleasing ending. However, that is my only
complaint about this movie. Now on to the good stuff.

The story is extremely refreshing, and it's nice to
see that the show is back on track after John Carpenters
poor episode, "Pro-Life". You're instantly drawn into
the interesting story which is like nothing you've
ever seen before, and it raises a couple of important
issues. The movie highlights the fact that the human
species is the pest of the earth, with global warming
we're killing so many species and destroying this
beautiful place without even considering the consequences
(I'm personally still upset that the US hasn't signed
the Kyoto protocol yet - this is the future we're
talking about). Perhaps the movie is right, perhaps
it would be better if the human species was wiped out.

You might think that the story sounds far-fetched, but
Joe Dante manages to make it feel like something that
could actually happen. His directing skills are
extraordinary and I actually appreciate his last
episode more after having watched this one, as they
both feel connected in some way. We've also got a
strong cast with many familiar faces that did a great
job. Ultimately I think that this is one of the best
episodes to date and had it not been for the ending,
I would probably have given it a full score. Don't
miss this one as it's a refreshing movie that really
makes you think.

Not that much blood, some stabbings and some more.

Again, X-files inspired soundtrack. It worked for most
of the time and did what it was intended to do.

Brilliant episode from Joe Dante which raises a couple
of very important issues while still managing to be
entertaining and exciting. This is not an episode you
will want to miss out on as it's one of the best
episodes to date (I've probably said this many times
which is why I always add the words "to date").
