Lauren and her
roommate has a creepy ghost girl
haunting their dorm-room, so they gather their
friends and try to rid the dorm of spirits by doing
a séance. Bad idea. It turns out that the ghost girl
just wanted to help them, not kill them, but now,
someone else does - and they've just brought him back
to life (well, kind of). Soon enough the friends start
turning up dead one by one, will anyone survive?

Itsy bitsy spider went up the water spout, down
went the movie, yes this was very plain. Out came
no fun and I saw this in vain. And the itsy bitsy
Freddy said this movie was lame. Well, that's really
all I need to say about this movie, but what the
heck, I know some of you have been looking forward
to this generic ghost slasher for whatever reason so
I might as well give it a proper review.
It's just before Thanksgiving and only five students
are left in the old dorm. Lauren and her roommate has
been having some problems with a little ghost girl
rearranging their shampoo-bottles lately (no, seriously)
so one rainy night (again, seriously) they decide to
perform a séance (I'm telling you, I'm not making this
stuff up!). Naturally, something goes wrong and they
end up waking up the spirit of a psychotic janitor
(why are you still not believing me?) who goes on a
killing rampage in the dorm. Well, the only problem
is, there are only five people in the dorm (well,
six technically) so he's not going to have a
very busy night.
Séance has got to be one of the stupidest teen slasher
flicks with a decent budget that I've seen in quite
some time. I mean, just look at that plot, is that
ludicrous or what? It's like they tried to mix The
Ring with some cheesy Scream clone (ehmm... let's say
Urban Legends: Final Cut) and ended up with a story
predictable and silly enough to be a Scooby-Doo
episode... I'm sorry, that was mean, Scooby-Doo
episodes usually have much more integrity than this.
However, it's not all bad, in fact it's not a
terrible movie, it's just not a good one.
The movie obviously had a decent budget which is
probably the most redeeming factor in this movie.
The directing is okay with some clichéd but cool
angles that never run out of fashion. And the acting
is actually pretty good. However, just because you
have Tarantino attached to a project starring Brad
Pitt and Jennifer Aniston doesn't mean that you will
end up with a good movie - it just means that it will
be somewhat watchable. And that's just what Séance is,
it's somewhat watchable. It's the kind of movie that
you can expect to find on cable late at night, and
since there's nothing better on, you watch it until
the end... or at least until you fall asleep.
Ultimately, Séance is still a quite stupid and generic
waste of time in my opinion. It's not so bad that
you want to rip your eyes out, but I doubt that it
will impress anyone - except perhaps for the friends
and families of the cast and crew members. It's not
gory or fast-paced enough to be a slasher flick, and
it's not even nearly creepy enough to be a ghost
flick - so what we've got here is basically nothing.
Watchable at best, but not recommended.

Not much to say here.

Generic suspense music, could have been borrowed from
any other DTV horror flick.

While the movie is technically competent, Séance is
still a complete waste of time due to its pathetic
story-line, its predictable twists and its somewhat
uneven pacing. It seemed as if they had just made up
the story as they went along, and I never appreciate
those kind of movies. Don't waste your energy on this.
