It's Easter in a small town and the streets are crowded with
celebrating people. But beneath the happiness and joy, there's
a mad serial killer taking the tradition one step to far by
sacrificing people. Now it's up to detective Maria (Mira Sorvino)
and her partner to try to catch this killer before Maria
becomes the next victim.

This new giallo looks a lot more interesting than it really
is. The movie starts out pretty alright but we soon learn
that what we get in the first ten minutes is about the same
thing that we get for the rest of the movie, only without
the murders. I should probably mention that this slasher/
giallo has to have one of the lowest bodycounts ever in a
horrormovie. After trying to keep my mind focused on the
movie for one and a half hour, not only do I have a head-
ache but I still haven't managed to sort everything out,
there were just so many plot holes and unnecessary twists.
It's weird that Semana Santa is such an unknown movie since
it was recorded in DTS 6.1 and the directing looks amazing.
But don't let your eye fool you, this is like one of those
sweets that has a cool candy wrapper but when you unwrap it
and put it in your mouth it tastes like something that just
came out of you. The acting is also good but I’m still
trying to figure out why the hell they made all of the
characters do an annoying Spanish accent, it was very
frustrating and annoying since we all know that Mira actually
can speak proper English.
I picked the DVD up for this for 3 dollars so I guess I
shouldn't feel ripped off... but I do! I kept on thinking
that they could have spent all that money on a good horrormovie
instead of some cheesy unoriginal slasher, which isn't even
worth mentioning really. The only thing compelling about
this movie is the artwork and the amazing DVD transfer that
it's had but the movie itself is really just a bad waste of
time, watch Camp Blood again instead.

We get a non-gory eye impalement and some rotten corpses, boo!

Some cheesy Spanish guitar music along with some of the
worst choir music I have ever heard in a horrormovie score
ever. This was just one of the many elements that made this
movie the trash that it is.

I know that some people like this movie but I couldn't find
anything good about this movie other than the excellent DVD
transfer that it really didn't deserve. If you haven't seen
this yet, take my advice and don't! However, if you have
access to a cheap DVD copy of this, buy it! This movie has
had lots of great DVD releases and it's just worth having
for the artwork.
