Setsunaku Nakeru Kowai Hanashi consists of
three different ghost stories. The first
one involves a pregnant woman who decides to
commit suicide but is saved by a ghost. The
second one involves a guy who gets sick of
his dog's barking and releases it into the
wild, but before he knows it, his dog is back
for revenge. The third and final one involves
a guy who starts receiving weird emails from
his dead ex-girlfriend.

Ordering a Japanese horror flick with a pretty
cool cover always seems like a good idea at
first. But when you search everywhere on the
internet in every way you can to find some info
about it and only find the site that you got
the film from, suspicions start to grow.
Setsunaku Nakeru Kowai Hanashi, roughly translated
into "Moments of frightening stories that will
make you cry" was nothing like I had expected
it to be. The DVD cover shows you a creepy
white girl with long black hair with blood
running from her eye and a white perky bird.
For some reason, neither of the two things are
to be found in this movie.
The concept of an anthology has been used a
hundred times before in Asian horror flicks
and honestly, it stopped working after Three.
Anyway, the first story is about a pregnant
woman wanting to commit suicide but is saved
by a ghost. First of all, I thought ghosts
were meant to be scary and evil, not save
people. There are some meaner looking ghosts
in this one as well though but they don't
do much except for groan and pull a fisher
into the ocean which really sounds scarier
than it was.
The second story and in my opinion the best
out of the three is about a guy who gets
sick of his dogs barking and lets him free.
Supposedly the dog dies and comes back as
a green ghost dog (it really looks like
they've spray painted the dog) to get
revenge but all of a sudden there's a plot
twist that seems odd and really doesn't
work well for the story. Then finally we
have the third story which is the worst
of them all. This basically just shows a
guy sitting in front of his very out of
style computer, clicking away reading
weird emails to later on go to solve some
mystery which I didn't really care much
about. All in all, I was a bit disappointed.

Nothing impressive, some bloody rips only.

The most impressive thing about the movie
even if that doesn't say much. It's pretty
good with violins and guitars and creates
the right atmosphere so I liked it.

The three stories are all right and I've
seen worse anthologies but if you're
looking for something really scary, this
really isn't the right movie for you.
As far as I know I don't even think that
a DVD with English subtitles is out and
I'm pretty sure there never will be.
