Environmental activists are upset with a major
log company for destroying the forest and
apparently, so is the forest. Soon, a horrible
infection starts to spread caused by the sap
from a tree, causing people to turn into flesh
eating zombies. A few survivors have to try to
find a way out of this nightmare but will they
succeed or are they next on the menu?

Finding good serious zombie movies that aren't
horror comedies is getting really hard these
days as most recent zombie flicks are horrible,
no-budget productions. Even if George A. Romero
did his best with Land Of The Dead, I still
thought that it should have been a whole lot
better than it turned out to be. So when a movie
like Severed shows up from out of nowhere, you
really do enjoy yourself.

Severed is a fast-paced zombie flick with a
great cast, great directing, a great story and
brilliant photography. This is what all zombie
movies should be like. The story is pretty
basic with a group of people who have to fight
zombies in the forest but what makes this
different from most zombie flicks is that even
if the story is ludicrous, it still comes out
as believable, just because everything feels
so real about it. These characters aren't your
stereotypical zombie killers, they actually
express emotions every time they have to kill
a zombie to stay alive.

As I said before, the directing is brilliant and
Carl Bessai might be our next Alexandra Aja as
the gore shots and the shaky camera movements
are very similar to the ones that Aja used in
High Tension. There's one particular scene where
a couple of tree huggers get attacked by zombies
while being chained to trees that will stay with
you for some time. It's hard to believe that this
was produced by the same company that brought us
abysmal horror flicks like "House Of The Dead"
and "White Noise". Unfortunately, I don't think
that we'll be seeing Severed in cinemas.

Keep your eyes open for this zombie flick when
it comes to your local DVD store because
even though the ending is a bit of a bummer,
the rest of the movie is very entertaining and
if you ask me, this is just what a modern zombie
flick should be like. Don't miss this one.

Gallons of blood splatter but not a lot of gore.
We get guts being ripped out by zombies, severed
limbs, a dismembered head and a knife through
ones hand. The gore is very effective though.

I guess they could have worked a little more on
this part as the same music was played in every
emotional scene. It's an all right soundtrack
but it could have been better.

Imagine House Of The Dead... now imagine the
complete opposite and you have Severed. This
fast-paced horror movie was just what I needed
to get back my interest in zombie flicks. This
is what all zombie movies should be like so
check this one out!
