A young
woman named Solitaire arrives at an all
women prison. Naturally, the tough chick tries
to beat her up but is unsuccessful at that. The
other prison mates are in awe of Solitaire's
strength but what no one knows is that she was
meant to be a sacrifice to a vicious killer as
a baby. A killer that was killed in this same
prison many years ago... soon zombies start
taking over the facility and the women have to
do anything they can to avoid getting eaten.

Lesbians, nudity, gore, zombies, Tony Todd, how
could this flick possibly go so wrong? After
having read a few negative reviews about this
movie I was a bit sceptical but thirty minutes
into it, I still couldn’t seem to understand why
people hated this so much. Well, as soon as the
zombie foetus makes an entrance, things go from
average to absolutely horrible.
Tony Todd plays Shadow, thus the title, a serial
killer who wants to achieve immortality by
killing a new-born baby (or something like that).
When he fails he gets sent to a prison where he
gets executed. Many years later the prison has
turned into an all female penitentiary with a
bunch of lesbian butch babes. Our heroine Solitaire
gets put in a cell together with a nice pregnant
woman called Emily, well wasn't that just a nice
coincidence? Only two nice chicks in the entire
prison and she gets put in the same cell as one
of them (the other one dies fairly early on).
Anyhow, soon enough zombies start rising from the
ground (for some ridiculous reason) and start
to munch away on the prison chicks.
As you can hear, it's got a pretty ridiculous
and overly predictable plot with no real twists
and no originality what-so-ever. No wonder this
had such a hard time finding distribution (and
just look at who ended up picking it up, not a
big surprise considering the quality of the movie
if you ask me). If you're expecting a true
zombie flick you'll probably be disappointed
since the zombies play a minor role in this flick
and if you just want to see it for Tony Todd
you will definitely be hugely disappointed by
his surprisingly bad performance. So ultimately,
my best advice to you is to go rent some classic
zombie film instead, this was just pathetic.

My, my. Cheap effects, I didn't see that one
coming (sarcastic). We get an exploded head, a
couple of all right impalements, some cheap fake
intestines, a very dry decapitation and some
very light red blood splatter (and also some
very very dark red blood splatter, wine and
ketchup anyone?).

The incompetent rock score serves the movie
right, this movie didn't deserve a good score.

Shadow: Dead Riot may start out with bunches of
potential but as the movie progresses, it gets
worse and worse by every minute. While we get
a few good performances in here, that's not
nearly a good enough reason to check this one
out. I'm actually surprised that anyone ended
up liking this at all (a few borderline positive
reviews are out there on the net).
