The cops in a
small village are busy with packing up and
getting ready to leave for the big city as there's too little
work for them where they're currently located but when a man
covered in blood walks into the station they soon realize
that they're not getting out of there today. The blood the
man is covered in comes from at least 3 different people and
his fingerprints are from different missing people. Who is
this strange man and what does he want?

A title like Shallow Ground sure leaves a lot to the imagination
doesn't it. Well so did the movie. During the 96 minutes I was
watching this I never really understood the point of it. All I
managed to figure out was that they were kind of trying to rip
off The Guardian. The story revolves around a couple of cops, a
strange man covered in blood and girls getting killed for no
apparent reason by an unknown person. So where does this take us?
Well, nowhere I suppose. Even so, Shallow Ground is a pretty cool
movie. I mean, with all the terrible DTV horror flicks being
released these days, this one stood out and tried to be different
and ended up being pretty entertaining even if it didn't make
much sense.
The movie looks relatively good, meaning the production values
look pretty high. The director also did a pretty good job
delivering whatever story he's trying to tell. The acting is
pretty decent as well though far from brilliant. The characters
however are pretty dislikeable and you don't root for anyone and
come on people, in a horror movie it's always important to have
someone to root for to stay interested. With that being said I
can honestly tell you that I never felt very interested in what
was going to happen next I just kicked back and watched it
basically since there was always things going on to prevent me
from turning it off.
That's the main thing that this movie has going for it, it
never does get very slow. Even if you're not very interested
in what's going on, there's still enough things happening to
prevent you from turning it off, well, unless you have a
stack of other movies you want to watch since you realize
relatively quickly that this isn’t going to be anything
spectacular. But at the end of the day I didn't think this was
all that bad. It had some nice gore, it had a strange story
and it really tried to be different. With more interesting
characters it might have turned out to be pretty good but
to summarize what I just saw in a couple of words I'd have
to say that it's nothing more than another half-bad DTV flick
with a relatively high entertainment value.

We get a lot of gory corpses and dead bodies along with a
pretty cool yet very unrealistic face melting scene.

Dull violin music which tries in vain to lift the movie's
atmosphere. I really felt that it needed some variation in
this department.

Shallow Ground is yet another half-bad DTV flick though this
one is a bit different story-wise and does manage to keep you
entertained even if you're never really interested in what's
going on. Think The Guardian mixed with any DTV slasher flick
and you basically have Shallow Ground.
