*Yawn* is it finally over? Ah yes it is, thank god.
The Shunned tells the story of... hmm... well... there
were cowboys... a killer that looked like Madman Marz...
some really ugly prostitutes and I think there was an
axe in there somewhere as well... Hmmm... so to sum
it up I guess it was a cheap western slasher flick?
No? You're right, I'm still being too nice, read on
to see what I really thought about this movie.

The final words that the six minutes long end credits
leave us with are "Support Independent Filmmakers",
and god I want to, I want to so bad but it's films
like this that give horror movies a bad reputation
and is ultimately going to kill the DTV horror trend.
A couple of years ago I borrowed my friends camera
and shot a really short horror movie and I swear to
god that it looked better than this. The Shunned is
so extremely incompetent that you can't help but to
be somewhat amazed.

Remember a couple of years back when everyone was so
upset about the quality of "Ax 'Em"? Well The Shunned
is actually even technically worse. Even though this
couldn't possibly be, the movie looks like it was
copied onto DVD from an old bootlegged VHS copy. It's
extremely grainy and the quality is so poor that you
can't tell what's going on for most of the time. To
make things even worse, most of the actors mumble out
there dialogue in a low pitch so you have absolutely
no idea what they're saying (yes, the sound quality is
indeed also ridiculously poor). This is pretty much
what you hear;

Decent actor: That's a shame
Poor actor: Mmm-hmm-mm-hmm
Decent actor: Haha, you're right about that my friend.
Poor actor: Hm-hm-hm-hm-hm

It's like watching the Muppets for Christ sake. Maybe
I should stop bashing this movie now and give it some
credit... well, in time. I have to ask myself how
someone could make a movie like this - and also get
it distributed. Anchor Bay usually releases great
DTV horror flicks but this was way worse than the
low-budget horror flicks that Dead Alive Productions
used to put out. For crying out loud, it looked like
it was edited together in Windows Movie Maker (and
by the looks of the special effects, this could very
well be). Okay, one last thing before I move onto
the good stuff, the factual errors were so extremely
obvious that you kind of feel bad for the person who
wrote the script because, come on, you have got to
do just a little research before you make a movie.

Okay so now to the good stuff. Well... there was this
one scene where the killer shows up behind a person
and jams the axe into his back and pulls him into his
cabin which was pretty effective. There's also the
obvious fact that a whole lot of heart and soul was
put into this movie, unfortunately that doesn't make
it any more entertaining for us.

We get an axe in the head, a decapitated body and
some more, really cheap special effects.

Not much music, some sound effects, bad recording.

I'm so sorry to say this but some people simply shouldn't
be making movies and it's difficult for me to support
independent horror flicks when they turn out to be as
bad as this one. This movie really should be shunned!
The title says it all so all you have to do is obey it.
