A pack of
werewolves set out to kill a 12-year old boy
who's a half-breed as he's the only one who can stop
them. He's protected by another pack of werewolves who
consider their mutation a curse and want nothing more
than to become normal human beings again. But who will
win in a bloody war between two packs of werewolves,
both burning with a desire very differing from the
others? And how is the boy supposed to stop it all?

Granted, Skinwalkers isn't a masterpiece and I didn't
think I would enjoy it at all judging by the trailer
and considering that most other recent werewolf movies
have left a lot to desire. But to my big surprise,
I really enjoyed this movie - which will probably make
many of you question my taste in movies (as if you
haven't all ready, right?) but we can't all agree on
every single movie can we? Skinwalkers is a movie that
I am going to have to defend because I dug the hell
out of it. I should put a little disclaimer on my
review however that I did not see the cut-down PG-13
version that will be shown in theatres, I saw the
original uncut version - which is probably a whole
lot better than the re-edit.
Remember when Jason X came out and everyone thought
that it was beyond awful? Well I was one of those who
loved it. It had humour, it had class and it had
everything you could ask for from a slasher flick.
Well director James Isaac has done it again. Skinwalkers
might not be the most original movie in history but
it fulfils your werewolf desires (even though a
skinwalker isn't technically a werewolf). The movie
starts off quite rough with a serious pacing problem
and a somewhat scrambled storyline, but as the movie
progresses it picks up the pace and slowly starts to
explain what's really going on. Occasionally it's a
bit far-fetched but I ate it up like a Chicken Parm
from Subway. Man are those things ever so delicious.
They've got chicken, they've got parmesan, they've
got lettuce and... oh right, the movie.
The story is basically pretty simple. A human mother
is struggling to protect her 12-year old son from a
pack of ravenous werewolves who have set out to kill
him as he's the only one who can prevent them from
living as werewolves for the rest of their lives.
There are also some good werewolves in here who want
nothing more than to become human again and will do
anything they can to see to it that the boy lives to
turn 13. Why? Because that's when his transformation
is complete. Again, I never said that it was original.
Skinwalkers is the best werewolf movie since Dog Soldiers
in my opinion. It's an action-filled monster adventure
from the beginning till the end. I'm actually happy to
be able to give this such a positive review as I really
thought that I would end up hating it. Instead, this
has instantly become a guilty pleasure of mine and I'm
sure that I will watch it many more times before I get
sick of it. If you're looking for a wildly entertaining
werewolf flick with a bite, then don't miss this one.
And even more so - if you enjoyed Jason X, you really
should check this one out. Don't trust the trailers,
this movie is actually really good, but I'd wait for
the unrated DVD to come out if I were you.
Oh and one more thing. That scene towards the ending
when the guy flexes his muscles - extremely pathetic.
I just had to get that off of my chest.

The unrated version has a knife in the head, a slit
throat, some gory shot-gun wounds and some more.

Terrific score which really got the adrenaline pumping
through my veins. I loved it.

Top-notch werewolf movie which I strongly recommend
even though you may expect it to be awful. You might
come out just as pleasantly surprised as I did. It's
the best werewolf movie that I've seen in a looooong
time and even though many of you will probably hate it,
I'm going to stand my ground on this one, I dug the
hell out of it and if you didn't, then man must it
suck for you to be a horror fan these days.
