Marty is a shy nerd and after a couple of students
play a cruel April fools prank on him he ends up
in the hospital with a horribly disfigured face.
A couple of years later (at least five years later),
the school has been shut down and the students
have been invited to a high school reunion. What
they don't know is that Marty is the one who sent
the invitations, and he's back for revenge.

After all other holidays had been terrorized by
various killers, two companies got the same idea
back in 1986 - to have a horror movie take place
on April 1st. Those two movies were April Fools
Day and this lesser known slasher, Slaughter High.
So why is Slaughter High less famous? Well, apart
from it being lower budget and less entertaining
I would have to guess that it was due to the fact
that this was released theatrically in November
while April Fools Day opened the weekend before
April 1st. Obviously a much more clever date to
release a film with an April fools day theme.
Anyhow, Slaughter High is basically your typical
80s slasher flick. A prank goes out of hand leaving
a geeky guy horrible burnt. A couple of years
later the geeky guy returns and starts killing
the people who hurt him. Now the story might sound
good and very entertaining but what makes this
movie so different from the rest of the 80s slasher
flicks is that it has some serious flaws and
continuation errors. Sometimes it's night and
then all of a sudden it's day and then back to
night again and things like that. I could point
out at least 5 continuation errors for you but
that's not important. Wait, yes it is I just have
to point some out for you.
Okay, so a guy dies and a chick gets blood
splattered all over her, so what does she do?
Why she goes to the bathroom of course and takes
a nice hot bath. Now I'm not sure about how high
schools are in America but in Sweden we don't
get bathtubs in the schools, we get showers, and
also, if the school has been closed for 5 years,
why would the hot water still be on? And furthermore
where did she get that soap from?
The acting is actually not that bad, it's just
a shame that the characters are so damn unlikable.
The lead, Carol (Caroline Munro) is the biggest
bully of them all and she's the one that we are
apparently supposed to root for. The geeky guy
is too damn geeky and I think that even stereotypical
geeks would be offended by how geeky he his so
when he gets disfigured, does anyone really care?
Every now and then you stop to wonder whether this
was meant to be a horror comedy or not because the
soundtrack is hilarious (a tune which can be heard
many times throughout the movie has an instrument
in it which sounds like someone is strangling a
very happy cat), the characters are unusually
stupid, the big reveal of who the killer is, is
pretty damn predictable and it just seemed to me
as if these guys weren't even trying to make a
serious and entertaining slasher flick. This is
definitely nothing that you have to see.

Well this could have used more gore but for all
it's worth we get a head impaled on a nail, a
guy's stomach explodes, one gets melted in an
acid bath, one gets an axe in the head and then
there are some more less impressive deaths.

The dying, happy cat tune is really catchy but
not at all atmosphere setting. Nor is the horrible
synthpop which I could've done without.

Slaughter High really isn't a very good slasher
flick but it does have a cheesy entertainment
value to it. It's not worth your time or money
but if you're a hardcore slasher fan I guess you
could do worse. Just don't expect any suspense
or any credibility from it.
