Tamara is having a hard time going through her
teenage years. No one likes her, her father is
an abusive alcoholic and she's got a crush on
her teacher. Could life possibly get any worse?
It sure can. One night, a couple of teens decide
to play a prank on poor Tamara but when the
prank goes wrong, these students better watch
out... Tamara will have her revenge.

Tamara is what happens when you put a couple of
average teen horror flicks together and add some
Carrie vibe to it and throw in a supernatural
killer witch into the mix. I had absolutely no
expectations heading into this film even though
I had heard a lot of good stuff about it. I do
love teen slasher flicks but I didn't think that
Tamara was a very good one at that, perhaps
because it really isn't a slasher flick? See,
Tamara kills her victims by making other people
kill her victims... eh, yeah if that made any
sense. The concept has been done so many times
before and it really is getting old by now.
Even though there isn't one original bone to be
found in Tamara, you still can't help but liking
it just a little bit. Tamara is a cool character
which you can root for easily which makes the
movie more entertaining, and also, the actors
are actually surprisingly good. Jeffrey Reddick
is responsible for the script writing behind
this movie and judging by his filmography as a
writer, Final Destination seems to be the only
good idea that has came out of him. I mean,
Return to Cabin By The Lake, are you kidding me?
Rookie director Jeremy Haft does a pretty decent
job behind the camera even though you can clearly
tell that he's not very experienced in some
scenes. What I mean is that some scenes are shot
in such a way that the movie looks lower budget
than it actually is. I'm not really sure as to
why this is getting a theatrical release in the
US actually, even if it's just a limited one.
For me, Tamara is a very average DTV horror flick
and no matter how many people that tell me that
this flick is gory, I will never agree. If you
like unoriginal Carrie rip-offs, check Tamara
out, but do wait for the DVD release because it
isn't good enough to spend 9 bucks on.

You've probably all heard the hype about how this
was supposed to be oh so gory. Well, it's not.
We get a slashed throat, a knife in eye, a ear
cut off, a tongue cut off and a little more. But
the best gore scenes have terrible special
effects anyway so don't watch this one for the gore.

Teen rock and hip hop, what else right? It doesn't
get much less creative than this.

Incredibly unoriginal teen horror flick which
does deserve some credit as it is rather
entertaining. It's just that, you could do a
whole lot better than this and to me, this felt
like a very average DTV horror movie. Only for
fans of the Carrie movies.
