Five friends are on their way back home from Mexico in their
van when they almost run over a girl walking in the middle in
the road. The girl seems to be in shock so they decide to pick
her up but it doesn't take long before she panics and commits
suicide... in their van. Now the friends have to seek help from
the sheriff but it seems as if that might be quite a hard
thing to do as they are alone in the middle of nowhere... at
least that's what they think.

I for one was positive about this remake from the beginning,
like many others weren't. This was probably because I didn't
really like the original and I thought that a remake could
take this movie, which basically does have a good story,
to a higher level. Well, to some extent I was right but there
were still a couple of things that I thought that the original
managed to create better. First of all, this wasn't half as
weird as the original, which was the main thing that made the
original so attractive. I also reacted on the creepy atmosphere
which this lacked on, ofcourse it had its share of eeriness
but you are never scared or jump high in your seat.
One thing that totally took me by surprise was the excellent
directing. I mean, this movie uses so many beautiful outdoor
scenes that your eyes just kind of feel relaxed, I don't really
know how to explain it, you'll just have to see it for yourself,
it looks simply amazing. While the acting is really good aswell,
I did notice that the cast seemed unfocused at places, nothing
major, just kind of took a bit of the feeling away. Overall,
the acting was better than your average horror flick.
It feels weird looking at the box-office chart and seeing that
Texas Chainsaw Massacre is number one. I generally dislike
remakes, especially when they are remakes of more recent movies
(like The Ring). In my opinion all remakes are very unnecessary
but at least this one was more entertaining than the original.
Perhaps I should watch the original again and compare the two
after a more recent viewing, but I'm pretty sure that I still
feel the same about the original TCM today as I did half a year
ago... and half a year ago I really didn't think it was any good.

Some mutilations, a gory stabbing, the classic hook impalement
and some more, I can't say that it was as gory as I thought that
it would be.

Sweet Home Alabama fills our speakers as we begin our journey
through Texas. The rest of the soundtrack is really just eerie
background music. Nothing special. By the way, what happened
to the bongo drums?

Clearly better than the original for me since I'm not a fan of
the 70's version. I can't say that I was surprised that I liked
it since I knew from the trailer that I would like this. Still,
this was an unnecessary remake, as are all, but still a really
good way to make time go by, so check it out now, no drama, no
comedy, just good old-fashioned horror.
