It's been many years since Billy and Julia suffered from night terrors,
but according to Billy, they're back to collect them. When Billy kills
himself one stormy night, Julia starts wondering if Billy wasn't crazy,
what if he was telling the truth, what if there's something out there in
the dark waiting for them...

"They" was released a couple of weeks before Darkness Falls was released
in the USA (while it had a UK theatrical release a couple of weeks before it
hit the US theatres). Strangely enough, Darkness Falls scored in a descent
30 million bucks while this had to settle with a little less than 10 million
dollars. I found this to be incredibly strange as they are both basically
the same movie, only this is more of a teen movie than Darkness Falls.
I thought that this was better than Darkness Falls though as this was far
from as flawed and stupid as DF was. I was in the UK when this was showing
on cinemas there and I thought it would be fun to go check it out. I thought
it was a pretty good movie except for the very stupid ending which everyone
in the audience sat and laughed at so I was happy to see that they had
chosen another ending in North America which I liked a lot better.

It's no secret that I think that new horror star Laura Regan is a brilliant
actress, though she doesn't seem to have enjoyed the concept in this movie
as much as in My Little Eye. I can see why. Basically all she has to do is
run around screaming, pretending to be chased by monsters (which looked
way too CGI made). Many of you have probably seen the classic chiller "The
Hitcher", which was directed by Robert Harmon who also directed this movie.
I do think that the directing was pretty good, it was the special effects
department that felt flawed and cheap in this movie.

Wes Craven seems to have no shame these days. I mean, the title says Wes
Cravens They, what the hell did he do? I bet you he wasn't even at the
studio while this was made, he probably only supported it or viewed it
once and decided to let Buena Vista put his name on it for promotion.
I can honestly say that I'm officially sick of this PG-13 mumbo jumbo that
has came out from Hollywood in the last two or three years, although many
of the movies are good, they just don't give us any treats at all. I mean,
this movie would probably have made a whole lot better money at the theatre
if it was ultra gory and rated R, perhaps it's time to stop this nonsense
and leave the horrorfilms for the adults to watch.

Nothing! Nothing! Nothing! Oh those bastards!

Some background pop music is mainly all we get except from some loud noises
which has the intention to make us jump but fails completely.

I definitely prefer this one to Darkness Falls but that still doesn't make
it a very good movie. It's alright, but that's all. The CGI effects were
awful and the story didn't really seem to go anywhere, this is one of those
movies that no one will remember in two years time. Worth checking out once,
but nothing that you want to waste your money on buying.
