Amy moves from her home in Hawaii to the mainland to
study drama despite her Aunt's warnings - a choice
that she will soon regret. After a couple of teens
pull a mean prank on Amy, she ends up in a coma which
she may never wake up from. Her aunt decides to
transfer all of Amy's hatred into a tiki doll so
that Amy can get her revenge - and she will!

I'm speechless. This is a sad day for puppet-horror.
Not since Black Devil Doll From Hell has puppet-horror
been this bad. Charles Band may make horrible puppet
horror flicks, but this one was just beyond atrocious.
Director Ron Ford sets a new low in this subgenre when
a Tiki doll runs amok and takes his rage out on a
bunch of talent-less actors.

Amy has just moved to the mainland to study drama, but
when she gets the starring role in the school's fall
production, the other students see red. Since they
suspect Amy to be in love with the teacher, they set
up a horrible prank which they hope will humiliate
Amy completely. Unfortunately, their prank is so
successful that it leaves Amy in a coma (see kids?
this is why bullying is bad). Luckily, Amy's aunt is
into black magic and transfers all of Amy's rage into
a Tiki doll (gee, where have we seen this before?)
so that Amy can have her revenge.

Now, the basic idea here is pretty good and I think
that we can all agree on that puppet horror flicks can
be really entertaining if approached correctly,
something which Tiki was not. The execution is horrible
and the acting is even worse. When I started watching
this, I expected a couple of good laughs, a silly
premise and some cheesy one-liners. Well the movie
takes itself way too seriously and doesn't even provide
any unintentional laughs, the premise is dull and
predictable and the doll doesn't give us any one-liners.
However, the Tiki doll does sound like a rat in pain
while running around stalking his victims. Now, correct
me if I'm wrong, but if Amy's anger is in the doll,
shouldn't it sound like Amy rather than some kind of
pissed off rodent?

Ultimately, Tiki isn't even so bad that it's good, it's
just bad. I'm sure someone will be able to appreciate
the movie but I'm not one of those people. Had it been
cheesier and taken itself less seriously, it might
have ended up being watchable, but I have to be honest
with you, it's a miracle that I managed to keep my
finger away from the fast forward button throughout
the entire movie.

Some blood coughing and cut off fingers.

Horribly cheesy background music which worked against
the movie. Hell, I actually dare to say that the movie
would have been better with no background music at all.

You know the saying; "if you can't do the time, don't
do the crime"?. Well in Tiki's case it's "if you don't
have the cash, don't shoot this trash". This is one of
the dullest puppet-horror movies in history, it's not
even fun in a cheesy, bad way because someone wanted
to make a serious puppet horror flick. Naturally this
didn't work very well. If you're into these kind of
movies, give it a try, but don't say I didn't warn you.
