An unknown
virus is spreading among the citizens of
Athen. The symptoms are; red eyes, limping, soft
bone-structure and an urge to eat people. Two groups
of survivors bump into each other and decide to try
to stick together. But fighting an entire city filled
with zombies isn't exactly a piece of cake. Will they
be able to kill an entire town before the town kills
them? Only time will tell.

It's been a long time since I saw a Greek horror movie.
In fact, I believe I've only seen one (Island Of Death)
so I was very excited to see that they had produced
a new zombie film. Unfortunately, To Kako (or Evil
as it's called in the US), really under whelmed me
and ended up feeling like a cheap DTV Land Of The
Dead knock-off. Making a zombie film these days isn't
easy, it's hard to come up with new twists or something
to make it feel original enough. To Kako failed
miserable at both of these and I don't even think
it could have been more generic.
The movie follows a group of survivors who have to
fight nasty zombies in Athens in order to stay alive.
Naturally, some die on the way and there's both
drama and romance, but that's pretty much the entire
plot. There's no depth here, it's just a movie filled
with gore and zombies. In fact, it's so gory that
it made me wonder whether the effects had cost more
than the actual movie. I've seen more professional
looking films with a much lower budget. Obviously
the people behind this movie were relatively
inexperienced. The acting isn't great either but
much better than the cinematography and directing.
However, there are some positive things to say about
this movie as well. First of all, the gore effects
are for most part brilliant and really keeps the
viewers attention. Second of all, while the story
is very generic as I said before, it still has a
pretty good pace and I was never bored while watching
this movie. Overall, it's a decent flick for gore fans
and zombie fans but since I've never been much of a
zombie fan, I need more than just zombies and gore.
Unless you love zombie movies, I can't with good
confidence recommend this. Hopefully Greece will
keep producing horror flicks from now on though.

Where do I start? We get guts, exploded heads,
countless decapitations, impalements, a fork in
the eye, a head split in half, a body split in
half, and much much more.

The commodore 64 techno was anything but impressive.
The rock music however was effective enough and
created a good atmosphere. The entire soundtrack
reeked of incompetence though.

A gory, fast-paced zombie movie which unfortunately
is so generic that you've forgotten all about it
seconds after it's over. It's definitely nothing new
and while I can see how it might be entertaining for
Greeks, I don't think that it will impress many
people outside of Greek. Worth a shot if you're a
die-hard zombie-fan but if I were you, I'd skip it.
