Pamela and her mother are going on a small vacation
for the weekend. They're staying at their friend's
new bed and breakfast and are eager to pitch in
wherever they might be needed. What no one knows is
that this bed and breakfast once was a creepy old
house where an old woman lived. Everyone called her
the tooth fairy since she would kill children after
their last baby tooth had fallen out... and Pamela
just lost her last tooth.

For those of you who expect The Tooth Fairy to be a
"Darkness Falls" clone, you're wrong. While the
concepts are similar, this takes a completely
different approach and ended up being more of a
slasher flick than anything else. I was one of the
few people who enjoyed Anchor Bay's recent DTV
releases "It Waits" and "Room 6" so I knew that
this I was bound to like this one as well - and I
was right. The Tooth Fairy is a gory slasher flick
with an entertaining plot and a Jason-like villain.

Once upon a time there was a woman who lived alone
in her big old house. She had a horrible skin
decease so she never showed her face to anyone.
It was said that if children came to her with their
last baby tooth, they'd receive a gift, but instead,
they'd be brutally killed (I never really understood
why the tooth fairy wanted to kill children though).
Present day, Peter has bought the old house and made
it into a bed and breakfast. A friend of his is
coming to visit along with her daughter and it all
seems to be going just like he planned. Until the
tooth fairy shows up that is, and starts killing
all the tenants with various weapons.

While it obviously borrows a lot from "Darkness Falls",
I think that it really improved upon the concept.
It did however have a couple of flaws. There were
a couple of plot holes to be found and I never really
understood why the tooth fairy started killing off
the tenants. I mean, I thought she just killed children?
I'm glad she did though since it would have been a
very dull movie otherwise.

As with most of Anchor Bay's DTV releases, the movie
looks very professionally shot. The cinematography
is beautiful and the colours are just radiant. It
really looks like a million bucks. The directing is
pretty good as well, even though most of the scares
failed due to the fact that the angles were a bit off.
Overall though, I was very pleasantly surprised by
this slasher flick. It's a gory thrill-ride which
I can definitely recommend to fellow slasher fans.

There's a lot of messy stuff in here so I'm not going
to cover it all, but we get a hand chopped off, one
person gets nailed to the wall with a nail gun, we get
a decapitated body and a whole lot of axe action.

To be honest with you, I didn't really notice the
soundtrack a lot. I felt that many scenes were pretty
silent and could have used a more powerful score,
but as I said, I didn't really notice much of it
so it must've done a decent job anyway.

The Tooth Fairy is a very entertaining horror flick
which I strongly recommend. It's not a cheap "Darkness
Falls" rip-off as some of you might think and the
things that it borrows from DF, it improves upon.
Check this slasher flick out, hopefully we'll get
to see a sequel in the not too distant future.
