After
successfully robbing a bank, a couple of criminals
decide to use the underground tunnels of Moscow to
escape. They have three hostages with them and it seems
as if everything is running smoothly. That is until
they realize that there's no way out. A demented
serial killer with a passion for eyes has them trapped
and he's got a pick-axe!

It's not often that Russia takes a stab at the slasher
genre, in fact, I'm not even sure that it's been done
before. But one thing's for certain, even if it hasn't
been done before in Russia, we've seen this movie a
million times before. Trackman is a mediocre slasher
movie at best where a bunch of no-good criminals get
offed by a masked killer with a pick-axe. The problem
with having the victims be criminals is that you never
root for any of them, and the hostages are too whiny
to care much for as well. But don't worry, that's not
the only problem this movie has.
I've always liked the idea of having a slasher flick
take place in the subway and British horror flick
"Creep" almost managed to pull it off so I was hoping
that Trackman would be a gore filled thrill-ride, but
it wasn't. In fact, it was very disappointing after
having seen those kickass posters for it. The killer
doesn't look very intimidating and since there's a
whole lot of gun and rifle-action going on in here,
it doesn't quite feel like you're watching a slasher
flick as much as an action-film gone wrong. See, they
occasionally seemed to forget that they were indeed
making a slasher movie as the killer doesn't do a
whole lot with his pick-axe. The eyeball-gouging thing
didn't make much sense either since we never really get
a good motive for why he's doing it (the twist ending
was absolute rubbish).
Oh right, the killer gouges his victims eyes out if
you didn't all ready get that from the poster. Another
annoying thing about the movie was that every time
that the killer would appear from out of the dark
(usually with a big spotlight placed conveniently right
behind him), the movie would go in slow-motion to make
the killer feel more intimidating. Yeah, it doesn't
work. It just drags the movie down. It was really
frustrating for me to watch this movie as I felt that
had they only pushed a little harder, they could have
ended up with a claustrophobic horror flick, but
there's never really any sense of panic or hysteria.
Sure, the whiny hostage screams their lungs out but
due to the fact that they're such lousy actors, it
never comes through as real.
Trackman was a big disappointment for me as I had
expected a gory, non-stop thrill-ride - especially
considering that it was distributed by 20th Century
Fox. But no, Trackman is a low-budget slasher movie
that feels more like an action flick than a horror
flick. The worst thing about it is that it doesn't
work as any of those genres. It's simply a failed
attempt to make a slasher flick with a Russian twist.
Don't bother people, just buy the poster instead.

Some bloody pick-axe action, eyes gouged out, a
slashed throat and very little more.

Not so much of a soundtrack as it was noises. Didn't
do much for me - should've been better.

Mediocre slasher flick at best with a silly killer and
an annoying bunch of characters. You want them all to
die horrible deaths, and none of them really do. This
should have been so much better and I'm sorry to
disappoint all of you because I know many of you have
been looking forward to this movie - but this is not
worth importing from Russia.
