After fighting a bunch of evil locusts, Dr. Maddy
Rierdon and her husband moves to a new town to
start a new life as teachers. Well, it doesn't
seem as if they're in luck this time either since
the town turns out to be inhabited by a bunch of
flesh eating vampire bats. Once again, Maddy has
to find out how to stop these killer creatures
before it's too late, but this time, she has a
bunch of students to help her out.

It took me about thirty minutes before I actually
realised that Vampire Bats is in fact a sequel to
the awful TV-movie Locusts. I guess it's original
to do a sequel with absolutely no connection to
the previous movie apart from a few characters
that remain the same but I didn't really see the
point. Why not treat it as a stand-alone movie?
Anyway, Vampire Bats is just as dumb as its
predecessor. CBS really need to watch a few horror
movies before they make another one as they don't
seem to be very good at making them. The key
elements for an average and forgettable creature
feature is there, but it's missing too much to
take it far beyond that.

Lucy Lawless reprises her role as Dr. Maddy Rierdon,
who has now become a teacher at a high school. Well
that's a step down. Either way, she is a good
actress but I really wish that they had taken a
different approach with this story than they did.
We've all seen this a bunch of times before, and
usually, we get a whole lot more gore and horror
than we did in this one. While Locusts didn't have
any gore in it at all, in fact I don't believe
that the locusts ever actually killed anyone, at
least Vampire Bats do have a couple of flesh
eating bats and a body count of, get ready for this
SIX PEOPLE! Don't get too worked up about that
though, I've had worse bruises than these corpses
did so it still feels a little too PG for me.

Hiring Eric Bross to direct this movie was also
a very bad idea. The camera is incredibly shaky,
making it look like really bad reality-TV in the
vein of The Osbournes (but tamer). Overall, Vampire
Bats does have some cool scenes in it but it just
doesn't feel like anything special. It is way too
TV-friendly and it's not one of the better vampire
bat movies out there. If you feel like watching a
good vampire bat movie, well, then you're out of
luck really but I would check out "Bats" or "Fangs"
instead of this one, they're a whole lot more
entertaining even if they aren't very good.

Nothing worth mentioning here.

I don't really have any comments on the soundtrack
department except for the fact that the dance music
played in the "rave" was absolutely horrible. This
music wouldn't even have been played at a rave in
the 90s, seriously, who did these dance tracks?
They are absolutely horrible!

Vampire Bats was, as expected, not the best killer
bat feature that I've seen. It's actually a pretty
bad one and it just feels a little too PG rated.
While it is gorier than its predecessor, Locusts,
it still failed to impress me. Don't bother with
this one unless you enjoyed the other CBS horror
flicks, which I doubt that anyone did.
