Ken works as a cell-phone repairman and doesn't find
his life very exciting. That is until he meets Mina,
an attractive but very shy girl who doesn't seem to
have many friends. As time goes by, the two get closer
and closer, but at the same time, Ken is surrounded by
death as someone is uploading video clips of his
friends having sex which causes them to either
commit suicide or get killed. What's even worse is that
it seems as if the next victim is Mina...

While I've seen countless of Thai horror flicks, I do
believe that this is the first thriller that I've
seen - by coincidence I should add. Heading into this
I was expecting a creepy horror flick as it's listed
as a horror movie on IMDB, plus the fact that the
teaser posters made it look like "One Missed Call 4".
But as it turns out, VDO Clip is a slow thriller with
only a slight hint of horror in it.

The story revolves around Mina and Ken, two somewhat
lonely people who have just met each other. They quickly
become friends - and it even seems like there's love
in the air. Let me take a moment to sigh. Anyway, so
meanwhile, someone is recording Ken's friends having
sex and putting them online on a site called "Sex Clip".
And as if that wasn't enough, whoever is doing this,
is also making sure that Ken gets to see every single
video clip as they send it to his cell phone. You would
expect the victims to die supernatural deaths but there
are only two death scenes in this movie that are
actually connected to the video clips (and three in
total) and they died very natural deaths where one
committed suicide and the other one got killed by a
bunch of motorcycle guys.

Then we have a surprise twist at the end as well which
was actually surprisingly clever. As you can probably
tell, it plays out like a horror movie more or less,
only without any real horror elements. This causes it
to be a very slow-paced thriller which really isn't
that interesting. Perhaps sex is extremely taboo in
Thailand but I mean, come on, who hasn't been filmed
while having sex these days? It's really not enough
to base an entire movie around it, don't you think?

The story is extremely thin and there are several
scenes in here that were obviously put in for padding
(like 5-minute long club scenes showing people dancing).
The acting is below par and the characters are all
very stereotypical. There's really nothing special
about VDO Clip at all. It's just very mediocre to me.
If it hadn't been for the clever twist ending, this
would have received a rating of 1/5. I wouldn't
recommend it unless you're a big fan of thrillers
that take ages to get going.

A slit throat.

Generic techno music but quite decent string music.

VDO Clip isn't atrocious but it's extremely mediocre
and takes ages to get going. It's not a horror movie
like some of you may think, it's an erotic thriller
(well, as erotic as it gets from Thailand) with a
story so thin that it occasionally feels like a horror
film only for that reason. Skip it.
