A TV company has chosen three people to go along on a trip with
two leaders from the television company into the wilderness.
They are not allowed to bring anything except for clothes and
necessary things. One day, two of the guys are sent out by the
group leader to go fish in a stream. As they can't seem to find
the stream they decide to fish in a nearby lake that they find.
That was a big mistake. The five people are now hunted by something
or someone lurking in the woods and there seems to be no escape.
Trapped in the wilderness, the five have to try to stay alive.

This is the first Scandinavian horrormovie that I really enjoyed.
I have seen three Danish horrormovies, Kat, Flaenset and Backstabbed,
Backstabbed was alright while the other two were terrible. Then
there's Sweden, which is the leading Scandinavian country in
horrorfilms. The Unknown was bad but watchable and so was Sleepwalker
and The Visitors. Then we have Norway with Island Of Darkness
and the slasher 22 and both were really bad. Finally we get a
good and original horrormovie and this time it was from Norway.
Director Pål Øie manages to create the perfect atmosphere and
tension with his eerie directing. He uses the simplest things
to create some of the creepiest scenes ever. Then we have the
excellent acting from the entire cast. It still beats me why they
had the Swedish actress Eva Röse in here though, I mean, do all
Norwegians understand Swedish? For me who am Swedish this wasn't
an issue at all, I thought it was fun to see someone you recognized
in the movie. Though, it was quite obvious that they had given
Eva as few dialogues as possible so that the audience wouldn't
get confused.
Villmark mixes some of my favourite horror genres. We get the
feeling that it's a ghost story but at the same time it's more
of a creepy thriller and also it's a backwoods slasher. I can
see how you might think that this would be confusing but really
it's not. It's not a clever movie, it's just creepy and suspenseful.
I still don't get what the scary thing about the lake was though.
I was very disappointed to see that it really didn't lead anywhere
with an awesome scene involving a rope, when you see it you'll
know what I mean. It might have gotten 5 stars if we would have
gotten a better explanation to the whole thing in the end but
the explanation that we got was confusing and totally anti-climax
so it ends up with 4 stars. Well done Norway!

We get a disgusting and realistic looking corpse as in many
Scandinavian thrillers. One gets some sharp object in the neck
and it went to fast to see exactly what it was but it looked
like a razorblade. That's basically it though.

The soundtrack was very similar to the soundtrack in the American
remake of The Ring. It's basically only eerie piano music which
creates the perfect atmosphere throughout the movie.

Villmark is a well done horror thriller with very few flaws and
being from Norway it was surprisingly good, no offence Norway,
I just don't like Scandinavian movies very much. This is highly
recommended for anyone who gets the opportunity to watch it.
I can't compare it to anything as it's really quite extra-
ordinary but I guarantee that it has something for everyone.
