A family moves into a new house on the country and at
first everything seems like a dream but when Frank
has to put up the wallpapers for the third time he
starts thinking that they're not sliding off the walls
by themselves. When one day he sees someone standing
in the attic, looking at him he gets enough. He calls
a ghost hunter to get rid of whatever spectre is in
his attic. But will he be able to help them?
The Visitors was the first Swedish horror movie ever
to get made and it sure took a while before we got to
see another one. I wonder why though, this is a pretty
good Poltergeist imitation actually and a lot
creepier as well. The movie was never released on
DVD and it's pretty damn hard, even for a Swede to
get a hold of a VHS copy of this. The movie takes off
kind of slow and never really gets going, which is
one of its many flaws. However, on a dark winter
night this will give one the creeps for sure.
The cast consists of big names in Sweden. Lena Endre
and Kjell Bergkvist and Johannes Brost are all very
well-known in Sweden which makes this even more
entertaining. These actors are all really good and
they sure know what they're doing. Kjell must've liked
being in a horror movie since he also appears in the
new Swedish slasher "The Drowning Ghost". The directing
is also very well done and the director is coming
out with a new thriller next year so I'm hoping that
it will be a good one.
I can imagine that this was very scary back in the
80s as I still get frightened when I watch it. It's
also got a little bit of comedy in it which is a
nice touch. All in all I have to say that I think
that it's a pretty good movie but I just didn't
think that it had enough horror in it. I mean, it's
way too slow and it can get a bit uninteresting
more than a couple of times. If you get the chance
though, check it out, it's a cult flick.
There's absolutely no blood at all in it but what
can you expect.
Except for the terribly cheesy 80's soundtrack, the
soundtrack is pretty damn creepy and reminds you of
the classic horror flicks from the 70s.
The Visitors might not be an excellent movie but it's
still a pretty creepy one. It can get a bit too slow
at times, but in the end it's still a pretty good
flick. Check it out if you get the chance.
