After Jonathan’s wife disappears, a man tells
Jonathan that his wife has been trying to
contact him from the other side. When she's
later found dead, Jonathan decides to contact
this mysterious man and starts to believe that
his dead wife is in fact trying to reach him.
He meets Anna, a woman who lost her fiancé
and they soon become friends but what they
don't know is that most people that have
received messages from the dead... have died!

Every time I'd go to see a movie and the trailer
for this popped up I got thrilled. The trailer
really gave me the shivers and my expectations
grew quickly. The thing is, the trailer is
really all you need to see as it shows the
entire plot. One has to be impressed that they
succeeded in making a feature film out of a
story so simple and so stupid that it could
be a film with a length of 5 minutes. The story
of a man who's mourning his dead wife and
starts to contact her from the dead is really
a pretty good story but it's not enough for a
full length feature and the subplots that they
threw in only made it a bit duller.
See White Noise isn't the kind of movie that's
supposed to be a horror movie, it's really just
a very drawn-out drama with lots of high sound
effects that will make you jump. So what they
did here to make it more thrilling basically
was taking the story from The Ring and mixing
it together with the script. If you've seen
"The Forgotten" you know what an original and
slick story mixed together with another story
to make it more thrilling (in the forgotten’s
case, taking an x-files episode and mixing it
into the script) does to a movie; it makes it
dull and predictable.
When I say that this is a The Ring rip-off
I base that on the fact that the story revolves
around creepy video tapes of dead people,
a man and a woman having to solve a mystery
before they die and a plot twist at the end
to spice it up a little. According to me the
word we're looking for here is not originality.
As far as the acting goes I think Michael
Keaton is a pretty bad actor who never seems
to be enjoying his time in front of the
camera, he never seems very involved with
the film that he's in. I guess he didn't
have much to work for here though, he never
even seems to really care that his beloved
wife just died, he seems more interested in
dead people and what they have to say. That
just didn't add up to me. I mean, Michael's
character Jonathan becomes obsessed with the
phenomenon and he's always speaking about
his wife but when she died he didn't even
seem to care. Something's just not right there.
If you thought the trailer looked cool and
you've figured you want to go watch it, keep
this in mind; 60% of what's shown in the
trailer, isn't even in the movie and the
scary moments that you get to see in the
trailer are the only creepy moments in the
movie, and still they looked a whole lot
creepier in the trailer. This is the first
horror movie to open in cinemas in 2005,
let's hope that the rest of the upcoming
horror titles are less disappointing than
this. I'm both sad and frustrated.

It's PG-13, speaks for itself eh?

Too many loud sound effects mixed with a lot
of distorted frequency sounds and some piano
music is not equal to a good soundtrack.

As this is the first horror movie I see that's
released this year I can honestly say that this
has been the biggest disappointment of the year.
I was thrilled to see that the trailer for this
was absolutely awesome, something that the
film itself turned out not to be. I'm pretty
sure most of you will see this but be aware,
The Forgotten had a brilliant trailer as well
and see how that turned out.
