A young photographer travels out to the country in the middle of
the winter to take some photos in some snowy surroundings. He decides
to stay at a small secluded Bead and Breakfast. Since it's in the
middle of the winter, he's the only visitor there. He gets interested
in the lady of the house's daughter, Lily, who's currently ill and
has to stay in bed. As he finds her journal he starts realizing that
something's wrong with lily, something's very wrong.
Here's something that you don't see everyday. Winter Lily is a quite
unknown but still very creepy horrormovie in the tradition of The
Shining. Even if this movie is incredibly slow, you are still hooked
from 5 minutes into the movie. Well at least this is the case for
me now since I've seen it three times and I know that the ending is
worth waiting for. The box art doesn't exactly flatter the movie and
the back of the box is just filled with spoilers so I suggest you
don't even read the back and whatever you do, DON'T LOOK AT THE STILLS!
I want to congratulate the actors for giving me one of the best times
in movie history. They are just incredibly talented actors, especially
Dorothée Berryman. The directing is also handled very well but the
fact that the picture is much too grainy doesn't exactly help this
movie. It's a good thing that it has a good story to it.
I am one of those people who like it when a story takes time to
develop. I read a review somewhere that the reviewer had thought
that the movie was so boring that he had to fast-forward through it,
well duh, you're missing the point, if you don't follow it to a
100% you will end up thinking it was terrible. I saw this with
exactly no expectations the first time so I'm very impartial, and
believe me, this is a great movie. Though, I'm not sure everyone
can handle the extremely disturbing nature of this movie, I felt
sick in some parts, not because it was gory, but because... well,
you'll just have to see for yourself.

There is no real gore except from some dead bodies.

A weird but cool guitar slash distorted drum tune is the main theme
for this movie. But we also get some background piano music and the
wind plays a big part in the soundtrack department.

Winter Lily is one of my all time favourites but since I do think
that they could've thrown in a couple of things to make it more
interesting here and there, I will only give it four stars. If you
are into clever horrorthrillers and if you like disturbing movies,
this is the way to go.
