Wishing Stairs takes place at a Korean school for girls. It
is said that the stairs leading up to the school beholds the
power of granting a wish if a 29th step appears when you walk
up the stairs. It doesn't take long before a bullied,
overweight student tries it. But as it is said, you should be
careful what you wish for, for your wish might come true.

This is actually the 3rd instalment in the "Whispering
Corridors" saga. Since I haven't seen the previous ones yet
I didn't really know what to expect but since the DVD included
a DTS track I was almost certain that I would like it. Well,
the movie did not even come close to my expectations. During
the first forty-five minutes we are stuck with a drama about
mean schoolgirls. Then for the following fifty minutes or so
we are so confused that we have absolutely no idea of what's
really going on. And in the last ten minutes we basically get
a ballerina version of Ringu's ending. This felt very cheap.

Even if the movie was quite high budget I still thought that
it looked about as good as the short horrormovies shot for TV
in Korea called City Horror. The girl school concept seem to
have become quite big in Asia these days, with movies like
"A Frightful School Horror" and "Hanako". The acting is quite
good but the script is built up in such a way so that you
never root for any of the characters and you keep on mixing
them up since there are too many characters to remember and
to recognize. Other than that I have no complaints on the cast.

I had a hard time giving this movie even one star since it
is just so cheesy and unoriginal. I mean, the stairs never
even seemed to have less than 29 steps, perhaps it just was
a 29 step stairs? All right so we do get hints to that it was
28 steps but everyone got their wish and I really hated that
part of the story. I was also annoyed by the lack of horror
in this PG rated so-called horrormovie. Instead, this was
a slightly depressing movie about bullying. What can I say,
it just wasn't my cup of tea.

It's PG rated so all we get is a rotten corpse.

The soundtrack basically consists of classical music and
piano music and a lot of background music for the ballet
dancing lessons. Pretty bad actually, not even the music
helped creating an eerie atmosphere.

This was actually one of the dumbest and most pointless
horrormovies to come from the part of the world that
produce the best horrormovies these days, Asia. I can't
recommend this at all but if you've seen the previous
two movies, which are bound to be better than this, I guess
you should check it out anyway. just for the heck of it.
