A local TV-channel in Holland is hosting a new reality
game show called "Camp Slasher" where a couple of
contestants have to go out on missions in the forest
in the middle of the night and avoid getting "killed"
by a mysterious killer. Well, something happens which
the TV-channel did not expect... a real killer shows
up and starts to off the contestants one by one.

The Dutch horror industry isn't exactly big and even
if many Dutch horror flicks are in plans, very few
actually get made. Woensdag (translated into Wednesday),
is one of those movies that manage to get made, but
with the very tight budget of 5000 euros. Now, I've
seen many slasher flicks with the same kind of budget
and I have to say, no matter how much I wanted to like
this flick, Woensdag did not impress me.
The concept of mixing reality-tv into a slasher flick
has all ready been done to death and the movie lacks
heavily in originality. It tries to be a Dutch version
of Friday the 13th but comes out as a cheap rip-off.
85% of the movie is shot during the night which was
a bad decision from the film makers since you can
hardly see what's going on for most of the time. The
only light sources seem to be the cheap flashlights
that the contestants use and it's definitely not
enough. Due to this fact, the entire movie looks
black and white since it almost doesn't have any
colours in it at all. I mean, I saw a DVD screener
of this where the picture would go black and white
every now and then, but I could hardly tell when it
was in black and white and when it was in colour since
there are no contrasts or colours in the movie at all.
After almost an hour, the daylight finally kicks in
and lets us see what's really going on. This definitely
saved the movie from being a complete disaster. I mean,
the directing and photography might be terrible but the
acting is just beyond abysmal. There are actually moments
when some of the actors look directly into the camera,
even though it's obvious that they're not supposed to.
I'm disappointed to say that Woensdag in the end felt
like a Dead Alive Production (you know that cheesy
company that made Camp Blood). It's nice to see that
the Netherlands are trying to break into the business
but if they continue to release slasher flicks like
this, I don't think that they will succeed. This movie
should only be seen by people that have some kind of
connection to the Netherlands but for the rest of us
who haven't even been to Holland, this will most
likely just bore you.

The movie is pretty graphical with impalements, slit
throats, decapitations, arms being chopped off, etc.
But gore sadly couldn't save this movie.

At the beginning of the movie, the soundtrack shows a
lot of potential with some killer rock tunes but we
soon realize that the killer soundtrack stops after
10 minutes and becomes as dull as it could possibly
get. It doesn't even seem to try to create
a good atmosphere.

Disappointing slasher flick from the Netherlands which
won't likely impress anyone who lives outside Holland.
It's a very dull slasher and the concept has been done
to death in several, much better flicks. It doesn't
help that it's almost impossible to see what was going
on for most of the movie either. I will not be able
to recommend this one sadly.
