Three friends are on their way to Wolf Creek where one of
the biggest meteor crates in the world is located. When they
finally arrive after a long drive, they quickly realize that
they should have stayed home for this vacation as their car
refuses to start. Luckily, a local man shows up and tows the
friends to his place where he starts working on their car...
or so they thought. They soon find themselves running for
their lives from a psychotic madman who doesn't seem to
appreciate the tourists.

Wolf Creek sure made me wonder, is Australia the new country
which will produce all the upcoming good horror flicks? I've
lost most hope in Hollywood and with movies like Undead and
Wolf Creek, Australia quickly manages to break into the
international horror business. The story is pretty simple.
Three friends, one guy and two girls, get stuck in the middle
of nowhere with a raving maniac after them but the way that
this movie was executed made this feel like so much more.
This could easily be described as Australia's version of
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (the original).
All of the three characters are very likeable and you quickly
grow fond of them. At first I didn't think that a slasher
flick with only three characters in it could be any good but
I guess I was wrong. We actually root so much for these
three friends that we really want them all to survive. There's
no bitchy bimbo chick, no snobby male jerk and believe it or
not, not one of these three characters are stereotypes. These
people actually feel like real people with real feelings, so
in other words, the acting is simply terrific. It was also
pretty fun to see that two tourists in the movie spoke Swedish
as I am Swedish myself.
The directing is magnificent and director Greg McLean knows
exactly how to benefit from the beautiful scenery. With vibrant
colours and raw directing, this is a feast for the eye as well
as for the mind. I haven't seen anything like Wolf Creek in
many years and it was definitely nice to see a slasher that
doesn't just have a masked killer running around killing stupid
teens (no matter how much fun that usually is). I really hope
that Dimension Pictures manage to see the potential in this one
rather than giving it the cold hand by dumping it on a few
theatres without any marketing (a la Venom).
If you liked such movies as High Tension (Switchblade Romance)
and the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre flick, there is no
way that Wolf Creek will disappoint you. This is definitely one
of this years best horror flicks and I don't think that the
master himself, Tobe Hooper could have done it any better.
Brutal and gory with a great cast, what else could one really
ask for in this day in age?

We get a really gory body, a couple of fingers cut off and a
whole lot more but I don't want to ruin it for you (besides,
Dimension will probably do that anyway by cutting it down to
PG-13 if I know them right).

The Australian country music was a pretty nice touch and mixed
very well with the concept of the movie. The suspense score
however is to die for. It is brilliant and will keep you on
the edge of your seat.

Wolf Creek will have you on the edge of your sit, hoping that
everyone will make it through this nightmare. It is one of
the best horror flicks that you're going to see this year and
I am thrilled to see that slasher flicks are making their way
back into the business. Do not miss this one people, it is
absolutely terrific.
