Six people with differing personalities have signed on
to participate in a survivor-like TV-show called The
Ultimate Survivalist: The Apocalypse. The tv-show
takes place in the deep woods of West Virginia, where
the cast and the crew of the show are about to find
out that a bunch of cannibalistic hillbillies live.
What was supposed to be a fun game soon turns into a
bloody nightmare. Will anyone survive the apocalypse?

Before I begin writing my review, I have to say that
I've always felt that "Wrong Turn" could have been an
increasingly popular theatrical horror franchise and
that it's a shame that they decided to dump this
straight to DVD. Especially considering that Wrong
Turn 2 is one of the best horror movies of the year,
not to mention the goriest horror flick I've seen in
ages. No, seriously, Saw pales in comparison to this,
this was just insanely gory. The death scenes were
off the hook, they were original, they were brutal,
they were surprising, they were simply flawless. One
could not have asked for better death scenes. But that's
not the only quality that this movie has.

But before we go further into the review, let me tell
you what the story is about. The reality-TV horror
concept has been done to death by now if you ask me.
It's even become a subgenre - and that's not a good
thing. However, Wrong Turn 2 only uses this concept
as an excuse to get the teens into the woods and the
reality-TV aspect of the movie is quickly faded out
smoothly. Six contestants have signed on to participate
in a survivor-like TV-show where they will spend five
days in the woods, trying to stay in the game. Now,
I didn't quite get all the rules of the game, it was
a bit too complex for a reality-TV show and had it
been an actual show - I'm sure that it would have
flopped. Luckily, it doesn't take long before our
beloved redneck family shows up and decides to join
in on the fun...

Wrong Turn 2 is proof that the bigger studios are really
making an effort trying to produce high quality DTV
flicks (something which is more than what can be said
about Lions Gate). The movie has an extremely competent
cast and there wasn't so much as one inexperienced or
bad actor. The characters are all very differing as
well and you end up rooting for each and every one of
them, which I simply loved. You can really tell that a
lot of effort went into making this movie. First
time director Joe Lynch is obviously a big horror fan
as he knows exactly how to connect with the audience.
There's not a single dull moment to be found in here.

Still, I have to say that I didn't enjoy Wrong Turn 2
quite as much as the first movie. Probably due to the
lower budget and limited time they had to shoot this
movie. But for a DTV flick, it doesn't get much better
than this. This is the cream of the crop people and
it is insanely gory so don't miss out on this top-notch
horror flick which is sure to get yet another sequel
due to good word of mouth.

Oh man, where do I start? We get a mouth ripped out,
a person gets split in half, guts, an axe in the head,
exploded bodies, several impalements, decapitated heads
and so much more. There's no stopping these insane
cannibalistic hillbillies!

This was one of the movies weaker sides as it didn't
feel very strong. With a more aggressive soundtrack
I'm sure that the chase scenes would have been more
adrenaline pumping than they were.

A sequel that lives up to its predecessor, and it's
DTV! Why? I'm just hoping that it does well enough so
that we can enjoy Wrong Turn 3 soon. This is an
insanely gory and extremely entertaining horror flick
and I strongly recommend it.
